Description (updated on 15/11/2013 at 07:13pm):
A 1939 irish threepence, 3d.
One of the lowest minted irish coins with
only 64,000 minted
A very collectable coin
A scarce and rare coin but even more
scarce in this condition.
Very good details on the Hare and the Harp
showing little wear on this coin
The threepence (3d) (Irish: leath reul) coin was worth 1/80 of a pound or ¼ of a shilling. The Irish name (leath reul) literally meant "half reul", the reul being a sixpence coin.
The obverse featured the Irish harp. From 1928 to 1937 the date was split either side of the harp with the name saorstát éireann circling around.
The reverse design featuring a hare was by the English artist Percy Metcalfe
Grading is my opinion only, buyers must make up their own minds from photographic images
