Alembic Distillate (1983)

Description (updated on 18/10/2014 at 01:40pm):

Alembic Distillate bass, built in 83, short scale (32").
5 piece neck-through (maple and purpleheart I think), ebony fretboard, mahogony body, claro walnut top. Adjustable brass nut and bridge, 2 trussrods, active pickups with the standard distillate controls (volume, low pass filter, Q switch, bass boost, treble boost, pickup selector switch). All original parts apart from the casing of the neck pick-up. Had the brass truss rod cover off when I took pictures, I have that too.
Frets are scalloped from the 7th to the 24th fret, apparently a custom request when it was made, doesn't affect playing, just less contact between fingertips and the fretboard.
There was a repair job done on the headstock, looks like it split at the headstock/neck laminates. Previous owner said this repair was done around 5 years ago, the repair job looks excellent.

Also consider trading for: Pre-EB Musicman Sabre, Turner Model 1, Status headless, Zon Sonus, Taylor AB...

Hi, don't suppose you would have an interest in trading for my Chapman Stick; http://www.adverts.ie/string/10-string-chapman-stick/637310

Both seem to have similar historic value as well as being incredible instruments
gino2010 says 13/11/2013 5:06 pm (11 months ago):
Hi Des, thats an interesting looking instrument you got there, to be honest it wouldn't be my thing plus I don't think I would have the patience to sit down and learn how to play it properly! Thanks a mill for the offer and good luck with your sale
Alexoz77 asked a question 13/11/2013 11:12 pm (11 months ago):

No problem man, very understandable choice.they should come with a prodigy necessary warning. beautiful instrument you've got yourself. If you have as much trouble shifting it we should start a support group! Ireland is not the place to shift this sort of gear. If you can figure out eBay let me know cause that is where you will get reasonable offers. Thanks again and best of luck with the sale

@Des Claypool: Cheers, hopefully it can find a home, don't mind waiting a while cos it quite nice to have lying around the place.. :-) Couldn't be bothered with ebay really, I'd much rather someone seen it, played it and liked it, plus I won't have to pack it up etc..! Thanks again, good luck with selling the Chapman Stick, it's pretty cool looking!

GingerConor asked a question 10/03/2014 10:07 pm (7 months ago):
Hi, I'm pretty interested in this, do you know how many people have owned this before you? I happened to find the basschat ad where you bought this form.
gino2010 says 11/03/2014 7:37 pm (7 months ago):
@GingerConor: Hi, as far as I know I am the 3rd owner, I did register with the alembic forum to find out more info about the bass, Mica from alembic seems to be working through history requests one by one when she has time, but looking at other history requests, this may take as long as a couple of years

GingerConor asked a question 11/03/2014 8:17 pm (7 months ago):
Cool, thanks. How would you describe the neck on this, compared to a P or a jazz?
gino2010 says 11/03/2014 9:06 pm (7 months ago):
@GingerConor: Kinda tough to compare.. it's shortscale, so frets are a bit closer together than either, I guess it is kinda like a p bass with regards to the width of the fretboard but the neck feels thinner if that makes sense, also there is not as much of taper from the nut towards the bridge as a p or a j I think, the fretboard width at the 24th fret is only about 5mm more than at the nut
GingerConor asked a question 11/03/2014 9:46 pm (7 months ago):
Sounds nice. Would you be willing to let this go for around 1300?
gino2010 says 11/03/2014 10:27 pm (7 months ago):
@GingerConor: Afraid not, I am looking for €2000
GingerConor asked a question 11/03/2014 10:47 pm (7 months ago):
Best I can do is 1300 plus a G&L Tribute L-2000. Let me know if you're willing to go lower.
gino2010 says 12/03/2014 7:58 am (7 months ago):
@GingerConor: cheers for the offer, going to hold out for asking price to be honest, thanks for the interest

lowdeno25 asked a question 20/09/2014 2:30 am (1 month ago):
Can you give info on the repair job? Who did the repair and was it a clean break through the neck before repair ?
gino2010 says 20/09/2014 10:09 am (1 month ago):
@lowdeno25: Afraid the info in the description is as much as I know, hoping I will get some more detailed history about the bass from Alembic when they get around to looking up the serial no.
