Since a few people asked I've checked the activation count on 1D mkIII.

According to "Camera Shutter Count":
http://www.camerashuttercount.com with a JPEG taken now the activation count is 4305.

[There doesn't seem to be a Canon 'approved' way of reading this value for the 1D mk iii based on my brief research]
