best what I've found was saitek x65 for HOTAS type of stuff. Well, for most of flying games. precision on x45 really sux unless you mod it heavily, at which point it will make more sense to get x65

for non flying games MS joystick I give away for free :) is actually excellent, but you'll need MIDI port. which is hard to find on modern pc. unless you have separate sound card.

Saitek is gone wheel and joystick are still on.

Having bought fanatec wheel, gotta tell you that ms wheel is still very very good. And supported by most of racing games
