On the contrary mhayes it's actually quite rare that you'll find laptops for sale on adverts minus the hd. It’s usually only seen when a business is selling old machines that may have sensitive information on them.

Simple solution if you are concerned about what people can retrieve from a hd is to write zeros to the drive effectively destroying any information stored on it. A quick format wont do!
