paddymac asked a question 23/08/2012 7:45 pm (2 years ago):
..hi were abouts in navan are u based ..what's ur shop address.cheers..
Metal Detectors Ireland (AMDAI) says 24/08/2012 10:16 am (2 years ago):
@paddymac: Hi. We don't have a shop as yet, sales of metal detectors in Ireland is too low for such a venture, however, with the association promoting the hobby and lobbying ministers to ease the law, we hope to go that way soon. However, You may view our detectors by apointment in Navan, we are based on athlumney road, just at the bridge over boyne river.

Regards
paddymac asked a question 24/08/2012 2:33 pm (2 years ago):
Ok cheers for ur reply and info..I'll be in touch just have to get the cash together first..
yak face asked a question 26/08/2012 12:10 pm (2 years ago):
do the same laws apply to northern ireland. As far as i know metal detecting is banned in ireland but is allowed in the uk. Id be interested in buying one if i could go treasure hunting in NI
Metal Detectors Ireland (AMDAI) says 26/08/2012 1:54 pm (2 years ago):
@yak face: Metal detecting can be enjoyed in Ireland As long as certain legal principles are adhered to. All detection devices supplied through the association are compliant with legislation regarding sale and supply of detection devices within the Republic of Ireland and as such come with a laminated i.d. card with trace back details to the association for the device supplied. Proving that your detector is compliant without this can be impossible and the equipment may be confiscated and/or you could face a fine
barryssalvage asked a question 30/09/2012 7:08 pm (2 years ago):

Metal Detectors Ireland (AMDAI) says 02/10/2012 10:37 am (2 years ago):
@barryssalvage: Hi barry, that is the same company, you may purchase detectors through either or simply google"amdai ireland" charges are different on various sites as some sites take a percentage of sales (ebay, adverts.ie, etc)

How deep DETECTS 2 Euro coins?
dakotapl asked a question 24/05/2013 6:22 pm (1 year ago):
OR COIL DETECTOR is water resistant
Metal Detectors Ireland (AMDAI) says 31/05/2013 9:31 am (1 year ago):
@dakotapl: Hi. Good question but not one that any experienced detectorist will answer, it depends on so many paramaters that can affect depth, all i can say is that i have dug coins up at over 8" using garrett ace
Kerr asked a question 19/06/2013 11:02 am (1 year ago):
Hi, can you elaborate more on the compliance side or supply a link to a web page that has the information? I am interested in metal detection and if I purchase an expensive mid range detector the last thing I want is for it to be confiscated.
Thanks.
cheif kaiser asked a question 22/06/2013 1:02 am (1 year ago):
I want to puchase one of these but am a bit scared off by article here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=83340427 and in paticular the post by "maolmuaidh". Can you explain a little more about how a membership with you can prevent what happened to this unfortunate family because I for one would be afraid to take a detector out in daylight.
Metal Detectors Ireland (AMDAI) says 22/06/2013 2:57 pm (1 year ago):
Hi Cheif.

Membership of the association will NOT prevent criminal action been taken against persons accused of a criminal act ! The article you refer to concerns a person that was allegedly in possession of unreported archaeological objects and, the claim that they were on a protected site is denied by the defendant, but as the case stands, he allegedly was. So, don't use a metal detector for the intent of looking for archaeological objects, don't keep any finds of importance without reporting them and don't go near protected sites.

There have been many Libellous and defamatory remarks made by certain ones in newspapers, radio and internet, along with misrepresentation of the truth concerning the use of metal detectors . These are currently under investigation by the association .

So to answer your question, association membership will NOT prevent anyone from committing a crime if they wish to do so, It is to educate and promote the enjoyable and legal hobby of metal detecting in a responsible manner.
cheif kaiser asked a question 23/06/2013 12:18 am (1 year ago):
Thanks for that Metal Detectors Ireland (AMDAI) it has definitely reassured me. It was only after I reread the story a number of times in different newspapers that it suddenly dawned on me that they were charged with illegally possessing artefacts but nowhere in any of the articles did it mention any charge of illegal possession of a metal detector which I assume would have been a charge had such a charge existed!

07ls1325 asked a question 26/10/2014 7:38 pm (3 weeks ago):
hi hows it going what dept do this go to im very interested
Metal Detectors Ireland (AMDAI) says 26/10/2014 8:02 pm (3 weeks ago):
@07ls1325: Hi, Common enough question from people starting out. All quality detectors will as a rule of thumb detect a ring or small coin to a depth equal to the size of the search coil ! so in the ace 250 case, that would be 9" and bigger items deeper. Any adverts claiming 1 or 2 meters depth avoid at your peril as its a scam !
jnason asked a question 07/11/2014 8:36 am (2 weeks ago):
Just ask I have the ace 250 and it wont seem to turn in anymore.any ideas? Im after buy\changing batteries wit no joy.thanks
Metal Detectors Ireland (AMDAI) says 08/11/2014 5:22 pm (1 week ago):
@jnason: If you bought it less htan 2 years ago it is under guarantee. Did You Buy it from us ? If so just drop it back and we will repair or replace it.
jnason asked a question 09/11/2014 11:49 am (1 week ago):
I didn't buy it from ye unfortunately,it's was bought 2nd hand so I'm not 100% sure if it's older then 2 years.im just asking to see if you have any ideas why it stopped working?thanks for your time
Metal Detectors Ireland (AMDAI) says 09/11/2014 1:21 pm (1 week ago):
@jnason: Hard to know, and the main problem with buying used is that it could have gotten wet and the pcb is corroded. if you wish you can send it up to us anyway and we can have a look .
noel321 asked a question 20/11/2014 2:43 pm (1 day ago):

Metal Detectors Ireland (AMDAI) says 20/11/2014 3:42 pm (1 day ago):
@jnason: I have no idea what it will cost to repair or even if it can be repaired without seeing it first. You would need to leave it for a few days, No way it could be inspected, repaired and tested while you wait, Just drop it up or post just the control box, easy to seperate from the shaft. I live in Navan, Meath, will be up in blanchardstown on saturday if thats any good to you !
jnason asked a question 20/11/2014 3:45 pm (1 day ago):
