Exquisite Rare Beautifully Shaped and Patterned Blue & White Antique Milk Creamer and Matching Lidded Sugar Bowl by Edwin James Drew Bodley, in the Worchester Pattern Registered 1876, Circa 1875 - 1892

A possible impending house move has forced me (kicking and screaming!) into evaluating all my china collections and some items will have to go, in my effort to downsize.

For sale here is An Exquisite Rare Beautifully Shaped and Patterned Blue & White Antique Milk Creamer and Matching Lidded Sugar Bowl by Edwin James Drew Bodley, in the “Worchester” Pattern Registered 1876, Circa 1875 - 1892.

I need to downsize my collection of china as not all my items fit in my dresser and cabinets anymore! No point having these in storage when I move house, so will to let some items go!!!

This is a very rare pattern and I can only find photos of a couple of plates online, this is the only example I can find of the Milk Creamer and Sugar Bowl, so extreamly rare to come across.

Edwin James Drew Bodley operated out of the Hill Pottery, Burslem, Stoke on Trent, only between the dates 1875- 1892. Prior to this, he worked with his father Edward Fisher Bodley, and this pattern may have first originated with him.
The impressed and printed backstamp with the ceramic registration show that this iteration of the pattern was registered on the 11th of September 1876.
The set would have been produced between the years 1875 and 1892, when the company went bankrupt. This set is most definitely a genuine antique as over 100 years old and 19th century!!

For sale here, is a Milk Creamer and a Lidded Sugar Bowl both in the “Worchester” pattern. The pattern is blue and white with gilt accents and features floral repeat patterns and a band of abstract repeat patterning. The handles on both pieces take the form of bamboo, with the details highlighted in gilt. They are really exquisite, and cabinet pieces for sure.

The milk creamer and the sugar bowl and the lid are all in excellent antique condition, with no chips, cracks, crazing or pattern loss, just a small amount of light gilt loss, mainly on the handle of the creamer. I would say this set has been in a display cabinet for most of it’s life, given how good the condition is. The previous owner was a collector of Blue & White Transferware and had this on display.

The milk creamer stands roughly 2.5 inches/6 cm tall and 4inches/10 cm in diameter from spout to handle. The sugar bowl stands 3.5 inches/9 cm tall and about 5.5 inches/ 14 cm in diameter, handle to handle.

This is a wonderful cabinet set for a collector of antique china, or and collector of Blue & White Transferware .
