Here we have a very rare find
A "pair" of pearse 10/- coins
These are a pair because if you look at the photo of the edges of both coins you will see that the inscription runs in opposite directions when viewed from the obverse of the coin
These ten shilling coins were minted in 1966 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the easter rising
There were 2,000,000 coins minted but as the price of silver went up
The silver content of these coins (82%) was worth more than the face value of the coins
So the central bank managed to melt 1,400,000 of them
That would leave 600,000 of these coins are only available worldwide
So now these coins are seen as a very good long term investment
