@advertsfox If it is a 4 core then i would urge you to look elsewhere because it's not ideal for a Proxmox machine. I have an Unraid server myself with a Ryzen 3900x so it's 12 Core 24 Threads and the higher core count is much better for running VM's. You ideally don't want to pin the HT cores to their own decdicated VM's because you get a drop in performance, they should be pinned along side their counterpart main cores so if it's a 4 core machine then you would need to leave the first core and thread for the host and that only leaves you 3 more core/thread pairs to run multiple VM's. Obviously it all depends on your load requirements as well but for myself i run a gaming vm, a home assistant server, an ubuntu server & around 20 docker containers all off the Ryzen as well as the host NAS so for that kind of virtualized setup you definitely need a high core count.
Thank you mate, fantastic information. I plan a similar setup (Win VMs, PiHole, Docker, Ubuntu, PiHole with power for more down the line). Thanks for the Ryzen recommendation, I will keep looking!
@advertsfox: I've checked the machine, its a 4 Core / 8 Thread so I wouldn't recommend it for your Proxmox setup.
Thanks for the update mate. I managed to snag a T7600 dual Xeon off eBay (16 true cores, 32 threads) with 128GB of RAM. Should keep me going for a while! :)
Thanks a million, very interested, I’ll get back to you tomorrow evening just have to sort a few things on my side
@dimatv If you look at picture number 10 at the center middle you will see the 2 connectors. They are black and yellow.
Hi, how old is the machine? Does it have original parts or did you replace some of the components? Am I correct to say it only has space for 2 HDDs?
