Chris Larkin Bassix rare handmade collectable 6 string bass

Description

Condition: New

A beautiful handmade six string bass from Chris Larkin, this was made in November 1989. The workmanship is sublime. This bass is in very good condition for a 30 year old classic. It has a couple of small dings on lower edge of body, but is generally in superb condition with no signs of buckle rash etc. It plays beautifully and has a great range if tones from the active electronic and five position pick/up selector switch.

24 fret, 35 inch longscale neck for great low B.
Custom Larkin/ABM Bridge gives great sustain and allows easy string spacing, action/height and intonation adjustment.
3 band EQ controls, bass, middle, treble.
Master Volume. Master tone for passive mode.,
Active/ passive selector switch.
Two twin coil custom wound KENT ARMSTRONG/ LARKIN Hum Cancelling pickups.
The 5 way rotary pickup selector allows single coil for neck and bridge (like Fender jazz) and series parallel switching configurations.
An amazing range of tones are available from the four pickup coils.

I think the well balanced Reactor style body is mahogany with a figured Irish Ash top. Chris sought out rare indigenous Irish AAA woods for his masterpieces.
Laminated three piece set neck with dual truss rod. Neck is straight, with frets in very good condition.

Chris very sadly passed away last year so his basses and guitars are no longer built and will continue to acrrue value. These are rare and becoming increasingly difficult to find. It has rarely been played over last few years and I cannot really justify keeping an instrument of this quality for aesthetic reasons, it needs to be played.

No trades thanks, there is nothing out there I would swap for this beauty.

This is a very reluctant sale, but sadly this bass is not getting the use it richly deserves. No trades thanks.

Is there many pickups?
BassManGraham 8 months ago
@R.chf16 there are 2 humbucker type pickups which have 2 coils in each, total of 4 coils A B C D, can be switched in 5 different combinations.
R.chf16 8 months ago
How would you compare that to two single coils sound wise is there a huge difference?
BassManGraham 8 months ago
@R.chf16 the 5 position switch allows you go use the single coils for a jazz bass type sound or double coils for a fatter MusicMan type tone, so you get best of both worlds
BassManGraham 8 months ago
@R.chf16 and yes there is quite a difference in tone between the single and parallel/series double coil settings

Hi,
I already asked a couple of weeks ago.
Can I add your bass to our Chris Larkin owners website?
Cheers,
Christoph
BassManGraham 7 months ago
@cnavratil Hi Cristoph, yes of course, please do add to your website. It's stored at moment so I don't have access to serial number. Sorry for delayed reply. Any thanks Graham

Hi Graham,
I've put it online - https://chrislarkinowners.com/bass/electric/reacter_8911XX/ - as well as in the "for sale" section on our website, where it is linked to this ad.
Please let me know the serial, when you get your hands on it.
I'm just curious, did you buy the bass fram a guy down in Kerry about two years ago?
Thanks,
Christoph

Hi.. What are the frets like? I'd there any major dings or marks. And is there a hard case ? Thanks
BassManGraham 3 months ago
@ennis86 Hi overall it's in very good condition, but not mint/pristine but certainly not "road worn" either. The frets are in very good shape. There are a few small dings on back and lower body commensurate with a 30 year old instrument, but nothing major I will try and add additional pics to highlight these. I do have hard case it came with that is also in very good condition. Previous owner was more of a collector than player and I have never giggled it.

@ennis86 I have just added a couple of pics to try to highlight small dings on back and lower edge of body. The case is in very good condition too. Thanks for your interest.

Hi is the gibson t bird or the peavey rudy sarzo bass in your withdrawn still available
BassManGraham 1 month ago
@Tmusov08 I ended up trading the Tbird elsewhere. I still have the Rudy Sarzo, which I might be persuaded to sell.
Tmusov08 1 month ago
Would you trade for the rudy sarzo
BassManGraham 1 month ago
@Tmusov08 I don't really need any more bass gear. Check my sold Ads you will see I actually sold the Rudy a while back for €995, but ended up buying it back several months later as I love it so much. I would resell Rudy as I have just bought an Alembic from a friend.

Do you still have the aria
BassManGraham 1 month ago
@Tmusov08 No all sold.
