Chris Larkin Bassix rare handmade collectable 6 string bass

Description

Condition: New

PRICE DROP DOWN €100. A beautiful handmade six string bass from Chris Larkin, this was made in November 1989. The workmanship is sublime. This bass is in very good condition for a 30 year old classic. It has a couple of small dings on lower edge of body, but is generally in superb condition with no signs of buckle rash etc. It plays beautifully and has a great range if tones from the active electronic and five position pick/up selector switch.

24 fret, 35 inch longscale neck for great low B.
Custom Larkin/ABM Bridge gives great sustain and allows easy string spacing, action/height and intonation adjustment.
3 band EQ controls, bass, middle, treble.
Master Volume. Master tone for passive mode.,
Active/ passive selector switch.
Two twin coil custom wound KENT ARMSTRONG/ LARKIN Hum Cancelling pickups.
The 5 way rotary pickup selector allows single coil for neck and bridge (like Fender jazz) and series parallel switching configurations.
An amazing range of tones are available from the four pickup coils.

I think the well balanced Reactor style body is mahogany with a figured Irish Ash top. Chris sought out rare indigenous Irish AAA woods for his masterpieces.
Laminated three piece set neck with dual truss rod. Neck is straight, with frets in very good condition.

Chris very sadly passed away last year so his basses and guitars are no longer built and will continue to acrrue value. These are rare and becoming increasingly difficult to find. It has rarely been played over last few years and I cannot really justify keeping an instrument of this quality for aesthetic reasons, it needs to be played.

No trades thanks, there is nothing out there I would swap for this beauty.

This is a very reluctant sale, but sadly this bass is not getting the use it richly deserves. No trades thanks.

Is this still available? I'm in the United States, but I plan on being in Dublin for 2 weeks this spring/summer, so I could easily meet and take it home with me. Hopefully it's still available by then...
R.I.P. Chris. I was about to order my 2nd bass from him just before he passed. They don't turn up in the used market too often, even less so in the US, so this one is definitely on my radar.

Hi There, I'm in Australia but I do have family in Ireland - have you thought about shipping overseas now that CITES restrictions have diminished; otherwise I could possibly arrange a pickup and get the relations to ship it?
BassManGraham 2 months ago
Hi Andrew, thanks for your interest, I would be very nervous about shipping, due to the value and rarity of this beautiful instrument. I would prefer collection if possible when travel restrictions allow. Failing that I would consider shipping if buyer pays courier and insurance costs. Regards Graham

@Andrew Vann hi please see reply on thread. Any thanks

Thanks Graham, I have had things shipped to Aus without incident previously - I assume it has a case? My sister in law was a good friend of Chris and Syra's and I met Chris way back in the mid-80s when he was just starting off but could never afford one of his basses at the time. A bit hard to predict when international travel might resume at this point as family members have been back and forth. I'll check in with the relations and see what could be arranged re pickup and shipping so you didn't have to worry about it. They are in Kerry but I believe they have a friend close to you. I can assure you it would be going to a good home.

@Andrew Vann, Hi yes it has the original hard case. It would be good if someone could collect and inspect the bass to ensure satisfaction before sending. I visited Chris and Syra just a few years back in Castlegregory. I very nearly commissioned a 5 string Reactor bass which would have been about €3300-3500 at the time. Cash flow was tight and I only wish I had not hesitated as sadly Chris passed away shortly after. This is a very reluctant sale, it is a stunning bass, but sadly it is not getting the use it deserves.

€1,495 OFFERED
Hi Graham, my brother-in-law has a cousin within striking distance, but would have to be after restrictions ease on 8th June. I can wait or alternatively I would be happy to pay shipping and insurance if you would rather settle matters earlier - if the photos are not current you could send me updated ones but the bass looks to be in very good condition from the ones you have provided and your description. I am happy to pay the asking price BTW and shipping etc. on top of course. Over to you. I just tried providing an email address but it won't let me - not sure how the messaging all works on this platform so hopefully you can contact me back through the offer process. From previous experience, I pay import charges at the Australian end before it's released to me by the courier so that's not something you need to worry about.
