Super cool 1959 Vintage Harmony Meteor
Very cool, great sounding and smooth playing vintage Harmony Meteor.
As far as I can tell this dates from 1959 and it’s a great guitar in very good vintage shape. It has its share of knocks, wear and dings but what else would you expect from this 60 year old beauty?
The old Bakelite tuners and knobs have long since disintegrated and so the guitar has been sensitively updated with replacements that retain the vintage look.
Comes with the original DeArmond ‘gold foil moustache’ pickups which are an absolute joy to behold and are almost worth the asking price on this guitar alone. Yes, they sound that good. Fairly unusual to see them still on the guitar as they are commonly raided by the parts monkeys due to the huge demand for them. They can of course be easily fitted to other guitars.
It also has a lovely typical 1950s chunky C shape neck, which just feels wonderful.
One of Keith Richard’s first guitars was a Harmony Meteor and the Kinks’ Dave Davies famously recorded ‘You Really Got Me” on a Meteor too, virtually inventing rock music in the process.
Nowadays, the Harmony Meteor is still as cool and sonically beautiful as ever and is favoured by Dan Auerbach from the Black Keys and Jack White amongst others.
Harmony made lots of guitars back in the day at practically every price range. The Meteor was one of its top of the range models and this is an excellent and very versatile guitar.
Typically these are 1200 Euros plus on Reverb, with shipping and customs on top of that. This is very reasonably priced as it needs a good home.
There is no case with the guitar.
