Fender TBX Tone Control

Description

Condition: New

250K/1 Meg Ohm stacked and detented potentiometer. Original TBX tone control for most Strats and Teles. CTS manufactured, includes capacitor and comes in original Fender packaging.

Some instruments have a unique tone circuit that features a TBX Tone Control (Patented). The TBX (which stands for Treble Bass Expander), is a dual concentric stacked tone pot. The pot has a detent in the middle position. From 0 to 5 (at the detent), the TBX functions like a normal tone circuit with filtration through a capacitor. Advancing the knob counterclockwise from the detent position gradually filters off high frequencies, like a standard tone control. Rotate the knob clockwise from the detent position, and you add presence and brightness by allowing the pickups' natural resonance to come through.

Hi, just to be sure, can this can be wired into a standard SSS Strat as a master ‘tone’ control?

Thank you.
East-West Guitars 11 months ago
@Beave Hi, I suppose it could but a standard CTS pot could be wired the same way.
East-West Guitars 11 months ago
@East-West Guitars You also have to realise there's a detent in the centre of the turn..
Beave 11 months ago
I’m trying to get a bit more brightness from the Strat. Would this or the .022 cap be a better plan.
East-West Guitars 11 months ago
@Beave you could try a 500k pot for the volume. I don't suppose it has had extra shielding foil added? That can kill the high end
Beave 11 months ago
It has, completely shielded cavity. Maybe I’ll give the 500k pot a go first then.
East-West Guitars 11 months ago
@Beave I would remove the extra foil if it was me. Is it US Strat if so what year?
East-West Guitars 11 months ago
@Beave I guess if you didn't want to muck about with the shielding a 500k pot will open the frequency range back out a bit.
Beave 11 months ago
The shielding is working well with ‘keeping down the noise’ I’ll give the 500k pot a go. Thanks for your help.
East-West Guitars 11 months ago
@Beave the problem with completely enclosing the circuit in foil is that it acts as a capacitor and filters off high frequencies along with the ubiquitous hum associated with single coils.

Hi sorry for commenting on this ad. But do you do the fender Clapton mid boost circuit for strats. Thanks.
East-West Guitars 6 months ago
@sharute No problem. I don't have these but if you have trouble getting them I'll check with my suppliers and see if they have 'em.
sharute 6 months ago
Cheers for getting back to me. Thomann do them but was hoping to keep it local before I give them my money. :-)
East-West Guitars 6 months ago
@sharute: Hi, yes I can get one for you. The best I can do is €75 if that's any use
sharute 6 months ago
Yea that's spot on. Won't have the cash till next week so I'll get back onto you. Plus 4euro postage.
East-West Guitars 6 months ago
@sharute: No, that will have to be €9 registered post
sharute 6 months ago
Sound no bother

I'll give you a shout next Wednesday what's the best way to contact you
