About the Job:

Provide strategic leadership, which results in the delivery of an effective, efficient, quality assured and patient centered Catering service

Ensure safe working practices are followed in the catering department and that a safe working environment is maintained and regularly reviewed in compliance with safety, health and welfare act

To carry out the day to day organisation of the work area and report to the Catering Services Manager as appropriate

Participate and cooperate with any internal or external evaluation of the service

Participate in the overall financial planning of the service including the negotiation of resources and the assessment of priorities in pay and non-pay expenditure

Ensure expenditure is controlled within budget and identify potential for efficiency savings through improved practices and innovation

Manage and motivate staff, recruit staff, train and develop staff according to Company Policies and Employment Law and ensure relevant Human Resource procedures are followed. (Performance Reviews, Disciplines and Grievance Procedures)

Ensure the optimum and effective use of staff through efficient rostering, skill/grade mix planning, workload measurement and staff deployment

Involvement in continuous quality improvement initiatives

Adherence to the policy on complaints and patient services​

Ensure adherence to all codes and guidelines relating to professional practice including the maintenance of Quality Assurance standards including HIQA, HACCP, JCI and Health & Safety regulations


The Successful Candidate will:

A recognised third level qualification in a catering-related discipline.

Have at least three years' experience working in a department catering for a minimum of 200 persons per day.

A full clean driving license

In-depth knowledge of food, food safety and food preparation in a person centred organisation.

Knowledge of Cook/Chill system essential.

Experience working in the intellectual disability sector would be an advantage.

Excellent interpersonal skills working collaboratively to enable the building of effective relationships with key stakeholders.

Ability to work strategically ensuring effective planning and delivery of services within budget.

Excellent communication skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
