Deceit
Brother Flay leads his congregation in their base on an abandoned ship on the coast of Bangladesh. He announces that he is leaving and that Sister Shard is in charge. Shard expresses her concern citing the parable of the Faceless but Flay dismisses it.
In London, Professor Stanton T. Carlyle speaks at his book signing where he describes and dismisses the Religion of Crime. He calls it a hoax. Renee Montoya is in the audience and asks what if he's wrong and they don't like his book mocking their beliefs. He dismisses her comment with a joke. Later Renee confronts him alone and asks to see his copy of the Crime Bible he must have had in order to do the research. He leaves her and heads home to his wife, Giselle, and son, Antony. Flay is outside the home.
Renee, as the Question, breaks into and searches Carlyle's office. She finds a lined box provided by Watson & Weir. The box is empty. A guard appears but the Question manages to sneak out unseen. The next day, Giselle and Antony are in the park where Antony has a minor encounter with Flay. Renee goes to Watson & Weir to determine what was in the box.
That evening at the Carlyle residence while Giselle is folding laundry, Stanton sneaks up and attempts to stab her with scissors but Question appears and disarms him. She explains that she is aware of Stanton's deception: by publishing a book exposing the Crime Bible as a "hoax", he was actually putting knowledge of the Crime Bible and its contents into the public forum. The murder of his wife and child, which would be attributed to Religion of Crime fanatics, would create a media scandal guaranteeing the book would be successful and widely read. Flay appears and attacks Question. While they fight she identifies Flay as being from the Order of the Stone and he claims she is destined to be so also. Giselle, meanwhile, grabs the scissors and, upon Flay's command, stabs and kills Stanton. She runs towards Antony's room, Question in pursuit. Before she can stab Antony, Question breaks her arm. The ambulance and police arrive and Renee watches chastising herself for not seeing and stopping the crime earlier. Flay is also watching from the shadows and quietly accuses her of deceiving herself.
Lust
Mother Superior and Brother Flay discuss Colonel Dominic G. Casucci, a Pentagon worker who has been visiting Mother Superior's "convent" weekly for the last month. Mother Superior is concerned that Flay will compromise their targeting of the Colonel but Flay hints that he's not the one he's concerned with.
Renee (using the false surname Vasquez) is in the convent and meets Mother Superior (under the name Abigail Lincoln-Gray). Renee claims to be a foreign service agent from Spain and was referred to this convent by the local one. Renee tries to keep an eye on the Colonel, who is visiting, when Renee spots, and is introduced to, a convent worker named Elicia to whom she has an immediate attraction. Renee and Elicia move to a private room where Elicia attempts to seduce Renee who steadfastly refuses. Renee slips a pill into her own drink inducing a "nervous" vomit onto the rug. When Elicia leaves to get something to clean the mess, Renee transforms into the Question and searches the convent until she finds the Colonel being seemingly blackmailed by Mother Superior. Mother Superior rips up the photos, however, as a show of loyalty and invites him to participate in something more fulfilling.
The next week, Renee returns to Elicia claiming she was so embarrassed over her vomiting that she snuck away. Again Elicia attempts to seduce Renee who refuses. This continues for eight weeks with Renee never giving in to Elicia's advances. Mother Superior confronts Elicia and ultimately smacks her in the face feeling she is not living up to the Second Lesson. When Renee arrives, Elicia comes on strong. Renee sees the bruise and demands to know who hit her. Elicia whispers that Mother Superior did it, that she's always under surveillance and that she's under orders to keep Renee in the room all night because there's an initiation tonight. Renee gives in to her passion while Flay secretly watches. Afterwards, Renee expresses regret, changes to the Question and tells Elicia to leave the convent and never return. Renee makes her way to the basement where Mother Superior is trying to convince the Colonel to murder his convent lover as the last and best way of enjoying her. Question defeats the cultists, frees the girl and burns the convent to the ground before escaping.
Later, Mother Superior confronts Flay accusing him of knowing the Question would do this. Flay assures her she can rebuild and explains it was necessary "to teach a lesson."
