For sale is a merchandise type of badge that would have been available for sale at British airports and probably on in-flight sales too. This badge was part of a series produced by Squire Badges Ltd during the 1960's and into the early 1970's.

The plane represented on this badge is the Hawker-Siddeley made TRISTAR passenger jet which entered in service with BEA (British European Airways) in 1964.

The Trident jet aircraft was conceived and designed for British European Airways (BEA) by the De Havilland company in the late 1950’s and designated as the DH-121. De Havilland merged with the Hawker Siddeley group in 1960 and design of Trident continued and production commenced in 1962. The first Tridents entered service with BEA in 1964. The design included three Rolls Royce Spey engines mounted at the tail-end so that the wing design could have ‘cleaner’ profile to give the Trident a higher speed. Trident aircraft were amongst the fastest commercial subsonic aircraft. Production of Trident continued up to 1987, by which time a total of 117 had been built. BEA (later part of British Airways) and Chinese United airlines were the main users of Trident. British Airways retired their Trident 3B aircraft from service in 1985 and China continued to use their’s into the early 1990’s.

Most Tridents were scrapped, broken up or used for fire-training and flight training. Today, only three complete Trident aircraft have survived and been preserved.
