Drum 24 inches. Tama - Talking drum
The tama is an African talking drum from West-Africa. It’s one of the emblematic instruments of Senegalese and Gambian traditionnal or modern music orchestras.
This hourglass-shaped drum is placed under the armpit and struck with a stick. The compression of the arm allows the pitch of the sound to be changed.
Due to its aquatic sonorities, it’s one of the favorite instruments played by griots (African storytellers), cause they imitate in a awesome way phonemes own to regional tonal languages, as the Wolof or the Serer. Insomuch, that people don’t say the tama plays, but it talks.
