Designed by Patrick O'Hara based on his observations in Kyushu, Japan, of the fringed Iris japonica and the butterfly Anthocharis scolymus.
This print was made in the traditional Japanese manner by the artist's daughter, Rachel O'Hara, who studied the techniques in Tokyo.
Seven different blocks, one for each colour, were carved to produce this print, and special shading was achieved on the background block.
Produced especially for Patrick O'Hara's exhibition "Secret Gardens of the World" staged at The Royal Botanic Gardens, Wakehurst Place, Sussex, to mark his 25 years as a botanical sculptur in May 1994.
