Joseph Charles Tilson, RA, was born on the 24th August 1928 and sadly passed on the 9th November. A renowned British visual artist and Fellow of the Royal Academy, Joe was involved in the Pop Art movement in the 1960s and excelled in paintings, prints, collage and constructions.
As a student at the Royal College of Art, Tilson associated with Frank Auerbach, Leon Kossoff, R. B. Kitaj, Peter Blake, Allen Jones, Patrick Caulfield and David Hockney, among others.
Signed Joe Tilson, dated 1971 lower right in pencil and numbered 277 from the limited edition of 550 lower left. This stunning graphic was printed at Kelpra Studios, London.

This print was made in response to the Vietnam War and student protests in the United States. The collage elements are photographs of a chain link fence, a crashing helicopter and the protests at the University of Berkeley in California.
