Nuffield 3/45 built in August 1967
Starting, running and complete.
Selling due to bereavement.
Restoration commenced by the deceased. A written account of the work carried out is available.
Brakes were initially seized (common problem).
Tractor was fully assembled when bought.
Brake binding was cleared enough to drive into yard.
Hydraulics working. PTO working.
Unsure but lift removed in order to gain unhindered access to brake assemblies -- half shafts removed.
All parts may need checking again.
It is a three cylinder, forty five horsepower tractor. Hence its nomenclature as 3/45
Original Irish number plate from Co. Laois (CI 677).
Hour meter states 2497 Hours. No idea if genuine.
Model produced for ca. two years from 1967 to 1969 after which Leyland inherited the brand.
Date of manufacture obtained from the UK dealer J. Charnley & Sons Ltd., which bought all Nuffield parts when production ceased.
For info, see Charnleys' website:
Nuffield and Leyland forum see:
Complete (except for headlights)
Engine running. Previously air locked when not in use but now starting without air lock.
Common fault as brass diesel tank valve may have been admitting air and has now sealed.
Tin work good.
Rear tyres are ca. 10% and 30%. Holding air but micro cracks on walls.
Front tyres need replacing.
Steering bushes need replacing.
One rad. hose cracked
Mudguards are somewhat corroded as is normal on these models.
Will need to be trailered away (local farmer can lift/load see below)
The tractor does NOT need to be re-registered.
Using the registration number, the log book can be obtained for a small fee. A form may need to be filled out and witnessed by the Gardai.
The following has to be verified but I have anecdotally heard that the motor tax authorities may issue a new 'brown' logbook for vintage vehicles such as this.
A local farmer with a Teleporter can be organised in order to lift tractor onto a trailer.
This will add ca. €50.00 (fifty Euro) to the sale price. You will have to pay the farmer directly.
