Things I've done since buying it : Changing the Nav Headunit as the screen had a few missing lines. Brake Pads renewed, PDC fixed, oil&filter change, pollen filter change, front bushing replacements, Crankshaft Pulley Replacement, both accessory belts replaced, new battery and current drain on battery rectified, damaged bumper chrome replaced. I also upgraded the MKIII navigation drive to a MKIV DVD one at a cost of almost 500 Euro, but it means you can get BMW maps for it for a long time yet.
Things it needs : Both wings and bumpers painting, if you buy it, I'll do these FOC. It'll also need another service in 5k miles and the autobox oil changing (It's supposedly a life sealed box, but it's better IMHO to change it at 90k) - I'll give you the name of an independent mechanic who can do this cheaply. The rear window demister doesn't work - known fault on the tourers, only cure is a new window, but frankly, it doesn't matter a damn - you can normally see out fine even with mist on it.
Why am I selling it? A lot of my work doesn't require such a huge car now. I'll also throw in a 250 litre roof box and roof bars if you're interested in it.
Please no stupid offers. There are 99 Octavia Estates with ridiculous mileage going for near to 3k. This car would have been 70k new, and is worth every penny of what I'm asking. And don't forget, parts are *not* a problem for these cars. Everything can be gotten, and cheaply too.
No part exchanges, or swaps please.

Tigger asked a question 14/03/2011 9:28 pm (1 year ago):No nct?
PaintDoctor says 14/03/2011 9:34 pm (1 year ago):There is of course an NCT. It's up in June.
Tigger asked a question 14/03/2011 10:14 pm (1 year ago):sorry its says no nct on the ad
nice car very much my style
PaintDoctor says 14/03/2011 10:16 pm (1 year ago):My bad Tigger, I was caught up in getting all the spec there, and of course forgot the basis. Thanks for reminding me :)
unklerosco asked a question 20/03/2011 12:47 am (1 year ago):Why do the wings and bumper need painting?
PaintDoctor says 20/03/2011 1:14 am (1 year ago):Mostly because it's a 9 year old car. There's nothing structurally wrong with them, comsmetically bugger all too for the age. I'm just fussy, and if I sell it to someone, I'd prefer it to be right. For example, one wing has a chip taken out of the paint an inch long, it's still silver, so I'd need to show it to you for you to notice it, but I see it every time I get into the car. The rear bumper's scuffed from constantly loading/unloading equipment. Stupid stuff like that.
To be honest, 90% of people would be fine with them the way they are. As I said, I'm just fussy.
N O REILLY asked a question 20/03/2011 12:05 pm (1 year ago):Beautiful Car PaintDoctor.....
How much would you consider your lowest price for it???
PaintDoctor says 20/03/2011 1:42 pm (1 year ago):Thanks N O'Reilly - I'm not going to list my price, as that would defeat the point of people making me bids. I've already turned down 3 bids via PM, but it's up to users to post how much they're willing to pay, and for sellers to accept/reject. Thanks for the interest though!
pimpffish asked a question 20/03/2011 9:27 pm (1 year ago):hi, swap for renault laguna dynamique 2002, 67k miles
PaintDoctor says 21/03/2011 12:07 am (1 year ago):Hi Pimpfish, as per my ad details clearly listed, there's only one type of car I'm interested in swapping for. Thanks for the interest though.
unklerosco asked a question 21/03/2011 3:29 pm (1 year ago):What sort of price would the oil change on the autobox be?
PaintDoctor says 21/03/2011 5:02 pm (1 year ago):Normally you'd be talking 200 ish, as it needs the Rover testbook diagnostics gear, but my indy mechanic would do it for 120.
This is just me being anal, as stated in the ad, it's a unit which is sealed for life - I've no reason to think the car wouldn't be fine never having an auto box flush, but I'm the type of person who prefers dotting i's and crossing t's.
N O REILLY asked a question 21/03/2011 5:45 pm (1 year ago):The unit is sealed for a reson.....
It's not to be tampered with.
The automatic transmission box will never need a flush out.
If you look at the Transmission dip stick on the car ,you will find the oil is spottless clean.
This remains this way...
PaintDoctor says 21/03/2011 5:47 pm (1 year ago):@N O'Reilly - thanks for your incorrect advice. If you're not interested in buying the car, don't threadspoil. There is no transmission dipstick on a 75 Jatco gearbox.
Grathu asked a question 09/04/2011 11:12 am (1 year ago):Hi, is road tax calculated by CO2 emissions
or cc ? Will you put an NCT on it before sale?
Many thanks
Grathu
PaintDoctor says 10/04/2011 8:20 pm (1 year ago):Hi Grathu,
As it's a pre-2008 car, road tax is calculated on CC's. I could certainly put an NCT on it if someone was interested. I have also recently changed the non-Xenon bulbs to white bulbs in order to match the Xenon dipped beams at a cost of 60 Euro. Silly little detail, but it improves the look of the car.
As regards your PM offer of 4200, I genuinely appreciate the offer, but considering the fact I'm going to carry out about 1k of bodywork on it myself for the next owner, it's just a bit too low. I'd certainly take less than my asking, but you'd need to offer closer to my asking to secure the sale. It's a lovely car, and I'll be sad to see it go, but whoever gets it next will get a great machine with literally all the toys.
Mary H asked a question 11/04/2011 11:35 pm (1 year ago):Is it still available , A real beauty I love it
PaintDoctor says 11/04/2011 11:38 pm (1 year ago):It still is Mary, thanks for the compliments!
PaintDoctor says 12/04/2011 9:29 am (1 year ago):Just to follow up on your PM Mary (As offers must be discussed here on thread), I would accept 4500 from you if it's still for sale next month when you can pay for it, if you want me to hold it for you, I'd accept a deposit.
In the meantime, anyone else is more than welcome to step up!
PaintDoctor says 12/04/2011 9:30 am (1 year ago):Photos updated, with Navigation and TV screenshots.
Max Power1 asked a question 13/04/2011 2:38 pm (1 year ago):Hi Paintdoctor.
Are you going to be anywhere around dublin or kildare in the near future?
I'd be interested but wouldnt want to travel to cork unless I was sure of purchase.
PaintDoctor says 13/04/2011 11:09 pm (1 year ago):Hi Max,
Unfortunately I'm hardly ever in Dublin, and also, I will be taking this car off the road early next week as my new car has arrived, so it'll be living on my driveway until it's next owner decides to collect it.
PaintDoctor says 20/04/2011 10:31 am (1 year ago):Thanks to Grathu for another PM offer of 4350 (As per adverts rules, I'm reposting the offers here in case the Mods decide to ban me for off thread dealing). As stated previously, the price I'm happy to take is 4500. The first person to offer that price gets it.
Remember - you're bidding to buy, not to view.
Max Power1 asked a question 20/04/2011 3:26 pm (1 year ago):Hi Paintdoctor
Could you PM (if not against the rules) me the reg number as I want to do some background work before making an offer.
Also will you be NCT'ing the car before sale?
Grathu placed offer 20/04/2011 8:02 pm (1 year ago):€4,500 Offered
PaintDoctor says 20/04/2011 8:04 pm (1 year ago):4500 accepted Grathu, as per our discussion on PM's of my getting the NCT done. Other watchers, keep an eye just in case it falls through (The NCT may take a week or two to get), but given my discussions with Grathu, I can't see that happening. Seems to be 100% legit and honest.
Mary H asked a question 29/04/2011 9:35 pm (1 year ago):Hi Paintdoctor , Did Garthu purchase or is it still available ?
PaintDoctor says 29/04/2011 9:40 pm (1 year ago):Hi Mary,
Grathu offered asking, provided I do the bodywork and get an NCT. I'm nearly finished the bodywork on it, and have an NCT booked within the next 10 days. I've PM'd him here telling him the updates, but haven't heard anything back. If I haven't heard back from him after the weekend, I'll assume he's not interested and update the thread. I'm aiming to have the bodywork out of the way by the middle of next week, but she's coming up a treat. So much so herself thinks I'm mental for selling it, but I can't keep every car I buy, my driveway's only so big! :D
Max Power1 placed offer 04/05/2011 5:26 pm (1 year ago):€4,500 Offered
If grathu falls through I'll take it at 4500
PaintDoctor says 04/05/2011 7:08 pm (1 year ago):Never seen so much interest in a car. I should have bought 3!
Pecking order is as follows :
Grathu
Mary
Max Power.
Grathu's sent me on a deposit, so I'm assuming it's as good as sold. I will however leave the thread open until he takes it which should be sat week or thereabouts. NCT's being done on Tuesday morning. I've no reason to think Grathu won't take it, he's been bang up honest the whole way through dealing with him. So provisionally, it's sold.
Max Power1 asked a question 09/05/2011 5:07 pm (1 year ago):Its probably a moot point now as you say the car is sold. However I dont see a concrete offer on thread by Mary so I should be second.
PaintDoctor says 09/05/2011 5:22 pm (1 year ago):It is a moot point as it's sold, but I'm firm with the order that the car is to be sold on. Feel free to report it if you disagree with it, but as Mary is new to Adverts and Boards (Her profile is about a month old) - and obviously doesn't know about making offers on thread. She made a matching offer of 4500 almost immediately after Grathu via PM and has subsequently offered several times via PM to buy it immediately should the deal fall through. Her offer, despite not being on thread, was a week before yours, and I agreed in principle with her - before you made your offer - that she would be next in line.
I'm not going to go back on my word, but if both fall through, you'll be next in line.
*Mods* I'm aware of the need for offers to be made on thread, but I think it's only fair to cut Mary some slack as she is extremely new around here and doesn't know the ropes fully. She was 100% communicative on PMs, and is genuinely interested in the car, and genuinely made an offer long before Max Power1. I can forward the PM in question if necessary.
PaintDoctor accepts offer 09/05/2011 5:23 pm (1 year ago):@Grathu: Offer Accepted.
Deposit of 500 Euro received from Grathu.
