Description (updated on 02/11/2011 at 02:32pm):
The Sinar Norma is the original Large Format system camera, designed in 1947.
While the Norma is a monorail design which means it has full front and rear movements, due to its design is very light compared to most monorail cameras. It is about the size and weight of a field camera.
Also, it is compatible with the Sinar system which means there are many accessories designed to fit it, including 8x10 backs and off the film plane metering.
The focussing screen has been upgraded to include a Fresnel screen which considerably brightens the image for improved composition and focus.
The camera is in excellent condition. It works perfectly. Cosmetically it is in good condition with some dings but nothing that affects functionality.
Comes with lensboard
I love this camera but it has to go as my creative attentions are currently devoted elsewhere. In the future I will be returning to Large Format photography and would happily buy the Sinar Norma again for these reasons and more:
Full movements but is as light as most field cameras.
Collapsible and portable.
Swiss design and build quality - magnesium and aluminium. Really well made.
Many accessories (I have a binocular reflex viewer for example)
You can read more about this camera series and accessories here:

Here is an excerpt :
Why buy a Sinar? The Sinar is not just the best designed and best built view camera, but it is also the most complete modular system. The Norma, built between 1947 and 1970 is the best built view camera ever made and quite collectable. The Norma is strong and light weight; the 4X5 Norma weighs just 7.5 lbs.
The Norma is compact; it will fold down against the monorail. But compact means little when it comes to view cameras even if you are carrying them into the field. Because so many accessories are needed, you may store the accessories around the camera. So the compactness and portability of the whole outfit is more important than the compactness of the basic camera. Sinar Norma Expert cases efficiently utilize the space around the monorail camera and they have external hardware to accept backpacking straps.
Can meet in city center if necessary.
The first picture is of my camera taken with my phone so not the best quality. The second is from the internet and is an example of the system with a binocular reflex viewer (i am selling one of these)

Agnaton asked a question 25/09/2011 2:52 pm (7 months ago):Do you have any website showing photos taken with that camera?
regards
killianr says 25/09/2011 3:32 pm (7 months ago):@Agnaton: no i don't and i probably should. negs only so far.
killianr says 25/09/2011 4:18 pm (7 months ago):@Agnaton: if you are serious you can shoot some test films. its a good rig. did my research and bought from reliable used camera dealers rather than ebay.
c_brennan asked a question 26/09/2011 7:21 am (7 months ago):So this price doesn't include a lens?
killianr says 26/09/2011 3:45 pm (7 months ago):@c_brennan: the lens is for sale here:
large format cameras are not sold with lenses. if you are interested in the whole kit, we can do a deal for everything.
killianr says 26/09/2011 3:47 pm (7 months ago):@c_brennan:
here is the lens
http://www.adverts.ie/lenses/rodenstock-sironar-n-180mm-f-5-6-5x4-large-format-lens/981302
these prices are more than fair. if you can get a 5x4 camera and lens in good condition for less than what i am offering this for, you should buy it.
DMFT asked a question 26/09/2011 3:47 pm (7 months ago):tis a nice set up - does it come with the sticks as well?
How much inc the lens?
I would also be a serious buyer and would love to shoot some tests.
killianr says 27/09/2011 1:34 am (7 months ago):@DMFT: come to dalkey and shoot some tests. if you are happy, we can do a deal. i can do a deal based on what you need (which is why i offered the camera and lens seperately). i can do camera, camera + lens, camera + lens + reflex viewer, camera+lens+viewer+developing tank+motor base.
i didn't include the tripod and the head in the ad as i can use these for my next camera but as it is likely to be lighter i could do a deal with these as well and get myself a different head (the onei have now is a manfrotto 229 which is as upmarket as it gets before you get to a geared head !)
let me know what you think and i can p.m. you my number ...
killianr says 27/09/2011 8:51 pm (7 months ago):@DMFT:
Forgot to mention it in my initial description but this includes a lensboard and five darkslides.
killianr says 02/11/2011 2:35 pm (6 months ago):i have dropped the price but removed the darkslides and film as i can use them in the future. the price i am asking is exactly what i paid for the camera (except i had to pay shipping from the UK)
sineadw placed offer 09/11/2011 1:35 pm (6 months ago):€400 Offered
I'd love to offer more. This is as high as I can go..
killianr says 09/11/2011 2:15 pm (6 months ago):@sineadw: thanks for the offer. i am going to have a think and get back to you soon. just to be clear, i am offering the camera only here (without lens but with a lensboard to mount your own) and i have dropped the price to 500 (but excluded the film and darkslides which i offered initially)
sineadw asked a question 09/11/2011 2:27 pm (6 months ago):Yep, but it still has the focussing screen, right? And what about rails?
killianr says 09/11/2011 2:40 pm (6 months ago):@sineadw: screen with fresnel and rails with extension included. how ready are you to buy ?
sineadw asked a question 09/11/2011 2:47 pm (6 months ago):Have to run it past someone, and will have to inspect. I'm also waiting to hear back on another LF - should know tomorrow. Should be good to go though.
killianr says 09/11/2011 3:19 pm (6 months ago):@sineadw: sounds good. check in with me tomorrow. inspection is fine of course.
sineadw asked a question 11/11/2011 2:01 pm (6 months ago):Hi again. I'm ready to go ahead with the sale, pending inspection :) Please contact me if you're happy with the price.
killianr says 11/11/2011 2:28 pm (6 months ago):@sineadw: do you need the lensboard ?
sineadw asked a question 11/11/2011 2:31 pm (6 months ago):I do need the lensboard, yep.
killianr says 11/11/2011 2:44 pm (6 months ago):@sineadw: pm me your number and i'll give you a call to firm things up
