Stupid question, but do you need to be on Gas for this to work? Or is it a small cannister type job?!

Does this give out much heat?
Can you provide a link for some information?
THanks

whiteshadow asked a question 02/11/2006 6:43 pm (5 years ago):

can you post dimensions for it please

Smirky
Smirky says 02/11/2006 8:37 pm (5 years ago):

This is a focal Point Plasma Fire, full instructions, specs dimension, etc can be found at:

http://www.focalpointfires.plc.uk/Platinum+1.pdf

My understanding is that it does need to be gas mains connected but I am not 100% on this, have a flick of the manual on the link above.

Yes, it fairly belts out the heat. I bought it for cosmetic reasons but ended up using it for quickly heating up the sitting room on a cold night. Check the official BTU rating etc on the manual via above link.

I am happy to accept provisional offers in the meantime, should that sale fall through.

-thread spoliing removed consider this a warning-

sorry i will rephrase then.
is this the same fire as shown in the b&q catalog for €610?

it was never my intention to "thread spoliing" i was just trying to find out if it was the same unit.

Smirky
Smirky says 28/11/2006 8:55 am (5 years ago):

Ah, Magentis, welcome back. Still a bit grumpy with me about the lawnmower I see? Get a life and stop thread spoiling or we will see what the Mods have to say about banning you.

For anyone else interested, see attached thread where Magentis didn't do what what was asked and as a result lost out on a lawnmower I gave away for free and now he is following me around being a vindictive twit.

Great price on this fire ,a lot cheaper than I can buy it for and I get a 30% discount on them.
Will have a look and see if I can find a spot for it at home.

TempestSabre
TempestSabre asked a question 28/11/2006 11:26 am (5 years ago):

Out of interest. How can a gas fire be flueless?

Smirky
Smirky says 28/11/2006 1:44 pm (5 years ago):

Thanks Brian, TBH if it does not sell I will put it up in my new house somewhere, its just I am 6 months away from being ready with builders etc so seems a shame to leave it lying around. Shout if you are interested.

My understanding, Tempestsabre, is that it "filters" the fumes & also acts asd a convection unit so it radiates heat, not just from the flame. I'm not so technical on the gas fire front!

My chimney in the picture is blocked up & I had it hanging off the olf Chimney Breast with 3 screws! (BTW I finally put that amp up so i will PM you a link if you are still interested)

Cheers.

davidsatelle100 asked a question 12/10/2007 8:20 am (4 years ago):

What is involved in getting this onto the gas?? Just wondering if its a big big job to have it installed

Smirky
Smirky says 12/10/2007 10:59 am (4 years ago):

Basically the same as any other gas fire.

Assuming you already have gas in your house the plumber basically takes a line off this & runs it to where you want the fire placed. The pipe runs into the back of the fire so it is hidden from view.

Its as easy as that but do note that no gas fire is DIY installation and you need a registered Gas Fitter to install.

My plumber did this for me for €80 off memory.

Was hoping for a bit closer to the €300 Amanda, and this is still a real bargain at that price, but if there are no higher offers before you come back and confirm your offer then I might just let it go for the €200.
