RUA RED Café OVERVIEW
RUA RED Cafe is the new community focussed cafe at the heart of RUA RED, South Dublin Arts Centre that offers their customers healthy and delicious foods at reasonable prices.

OVERVIEW
The cafe manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the café. Including cafe finances & stock management, health and safety responsibilities, over-seeing the catering for exhibitions, events and bookings and managing a small team. The manager is integral in creating an environment that is welcoming to existing and new customers and developing a self sustaining cafe that provides a varied and healthy menu together with consistent, professional service.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Operational
Creation and implementation of all operational and administrative policies and procedures to ensure the Cafe, and catered events, run smoothly at all times
Overseeing the rostering for Cafe staff
Managing the catering arrangements for events, meetings, exhibitions and after hours group bookings Dealing with customers (external and internal)
Financial Support
Administrating the annual Cafe budget, as set with the Executive Director
Managing the day-to-day handling of cash
Providing weekly sales and purchasing figures to accounts
Customer Service
Providing high level of customer service to ensure client satisfaction and smooth running of the Cafe
With Venue Manager, put in place follow up and feedback mechanisms for clients
With Venue Manager, deal with any customer complaints that may arise
Health & Safety
Following health and safety duties as specified in the organisations safety statement
Setup, manage and implement the Cafe’s Food Safety Management Plan in accordance with HACCP standards
HR
Consult with the Venue Manager on the correct HR systems, policies and procedures for the organisation and employ correct practice in relation to Cafe staff
Creation of staff training and individual plans for Cafe staff with regards to food handling and HACCP standards
Oversee staff supervision and support policies (including appraisals)
Line management responsibilities
Development
Develop a seasonal, healthy cold food menu
Establish and maintain good working relationships with suppliers
Work with the Development Manager to identify user groups within the
community to make use of the cafe in quieter times.
Increase turnover in order to create a viable and self-sustaining cafe
Other
Any other duties as assigned
Attending internal meetings and training & development courses as agreed
SKILLS & PERSON SPECIFICATION
Previous experience of working in the food service industry at a similar level
Previous customer care experience essential
Barista skills desirable
Previous experience in stock control, waste management, financial reporting etc
HACCP standard Food Safety qualification essential – training can be provided
The ideal candidate will have a passion for good food and the enthusiasm to
develop a creative and varied cold food menu
A good command of MS Office systems, working knowledge of SAGE desirable but
not essential.
The cafe manager should be able to work under their own initiative and build the
café into a sustainable enterprise within SDACC
Excellent organisational skills are essential as is the ability to co-ordinate staff and
volunteers
Previous line management skills desirable as this post will involve supporting,
mentoring and encouraging cafe staff as well as volunteers/interns to develop new
skills and confidence
An interest in the arts and voluntary sector desirable
Be enthusiastic in creating a friendly environment for the general public, tenants
and building users
SALARY
A salary of between €23k - €27k pro rata, depending on experience
