INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW
Through the Job Bridge programme South Dublin Arts Centre Company (SDACC) can offer 1 unpaid internship of 9 months duration. The overall objective is to equip an intern with the skills and experience necessary to find employment as a café supervisor. The placement will carry a set of learning outcomes and individual objectives. Participants will apply via the Job Bridge scheme and will be able to retain social welfare payments if they are eligible. Participants will not be employees for the duration of the programme.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
Gain an understanding of the operational and creative work carried out by SDACC and how integral RUA RED Café is in achieving these aims
Develop an understanding of operational procedures and policies – writing a range of documents relating to day-to-day operations
Gain a strong understanding of the importance of good customer care - by being involved in the customer feedback and reporting structure
Exposure to formal and informal business meetings to develop skills in organising and participating in meetings - internal and external
Develop organisational skills through co-ordination of catered events and co-ordinating part time staff and volunteers
Develop an understanding of the dynamics of relationship building through maintaining good working relationships with suppliers
Develop barista skills to a standard that the intern can train and supervise volunteers
It is envisaged the intern will work closely with our coffee roaster/supplier and gain an insight into the coffee roasting industry
Develop a strong understanding of hygiene and health and safety standards and how to implement these standards in the working environment
To gain the confidence and experience to supervise a small team
LEARNING METHODS
Training methods will be a mix of formal training (external and internal) coaching and on the job/work experience.
FOLLOW UP/SUPPORT
Monthly support and learning meetings will be held where the intern will gain knowledge from an experienced manager and the opportunity to review training needs and learning outcomes.
The participant will have a training log which be signed off by their line manager at the end of each month

A strong demonstrable interest relevant to the internship
• The ideal candidate will have a passion for good food and the enthusiasm to assist in the development of a creative and varied cold food menu
• The ideal candidate should be a strong team player
• Excellent organisational skills are essential as the ideal candidate will need to co-ordinate and motivate casual staff and volunteers
• This position will involve a certain level of line management responsibilities - mentoring and training will be provided
• An interest in the arts and voluntary sector desirable
Be enthusiastic in creating a friendly environment for the general public, tenants and building users
