Description (updated on 04/01/2012 at 09:37am):

To buy Steinberg samples alone would cost €238 and that's just for data, here you get a great keyboard and much more.

Nurture creativity with the built in Yamaha Education Suite, a step by step teaching system for beginners.

88 Graded Hammer Action Keys with touch response - gives the same feel as a traditional piano and 88 keys like a Grand piano so skills are transferable.

127 Standard Voices - samples which are digitised recordings from a real Steinberg Grand Piano for example

494 AWM Voices - includes additional instruments such as Organs, Violin, Sax, Trumpet, Drum Kits etc and special effects, these are synthesised. .

32 Note polyphonic - can play up to 32 notes simultaneously

Accompaniment - it can play the backing track while you play one of the instruments from a song, you can build up entire songs from scratch playing the parts in turn and re-recording if required.

Harmony, Reverb and Chorus

Pitch bend wheel - allows more expressive performance, great with wind instruments like sax or tin whistle in particular.

6 Track Sequencer - create songs by playing one instrument at a time

USB Midi - Can also connect to a pc and be used as a midi input controller input for multi-track studio software. You can transfer your song to the pc and correct any mistakes, then copy back to the keyboard so it plays your perfected version. Then you can record the Steinberg Grand Piano playback through your sound card since no downloaded sample sets are liable to match that quality.

USB Host - can plug in a USB key/External Hard Drive and it will read and save songs and styles without needing a pc.

moaneill asked a question 04/01/2012 3:43 pm (4 months ago):

If possible yes. I have the money waiting if you want to get it done this evening or tmoro evening. If I'm to pick it up I can't say when I could get down to you. Let me know anyway. Thanks

@moaneill:Ok, well I wouldn't make this evening and not sure about tomorrow, but I can travel in the coming days so that's not a show-stopper.

I want to wait and see if I get an offer closer to the asking and to my location, but if nothing better comes in soon you're in pole position.

That's fair enough. I'll wait to hear from you so.

@moaneill:Ok if I leave it too long I'd be messing you around and you could change your mind. Offer accepted if you're still interested.

moaneill asked a question 05/01/2012 2:27 pm (4 months ago):

Thanks for coming back to me. I'm a little unsure about this as I read up a bit on the net last night about this piano and it seems to be difficult to find a driver for Mac to use the USB Midi on it. That would be my main reason for buying it so if that's the case I'm going to have to withdraw the offer. Sorry for the hassle. If I find a driver I'll come back to you if it isn't sold already. Cheers

democrates says 05/01/2012 2:40 pm (4 months ago):

@moaneill:No probs. The driver for Mac is on the CD, also you can see Mac USB driver updates available on the Yamaha site - http://download.yamaha.com/top/ and put 'DGX-620' into the box named 'Search by Model Name'
So where does that leave you?

moaneill
moaneill asked a question 06/01/2012 2:47 pm (4 months ago):

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm sorry to be messing you around but I'm not entirely sure about this one. My bro has the DGX 630 which I thought was the same but there seems to be some differences. Also I don't need the samples so unless u can drop the price a bit I'll have to leave it. Cheers and best of luck with the sale

@moaneill:No worries, no point in shelling out for something unless it really fits the bill. Note that the Steinway Grand samples aren't separate software, they come built in with this range of keyboards ready to go.

I'm actually starting to think about keeping this and a bunch of other things I was going to sell, turns out it's not as expensive as I thought to get things shipped abroad, so I'll suss that out this week.

hi, I live in dublin 7, can I see/try the piano tomorrow (sunday 8th)? thanks. mic

democrates
democrates says 08/01/2012 2:56 am (4 months ago):

@berlingozzo:I see you've also asked the people selling their Yamaha P70 and M Audio Keystation Pro to call to you so you can try before you buy.

It's not really fair to expect 3 people to load up their keyboards, travel into the city centre, find parking, lug the keyboard into your place and set up when at least 2 of them would do all that for nothing.

Please ask experienced players on boards.ie for advice and decide which type of keyboard best meets your requirements. Many people go to Waltons and other music shops to try out keyboards first, and you might even decide to buy a new one there.

Personally I'm only willing to travel etc. on the basis that the person is sure that they want this keyboard and the agreement on adverts.ie is 'offer accepted subject to inspection'. Then I know the deal will proceed once the buyer verifies that it's in perfect condition.

My guess is that by the time you know what you want, my keyboard will be sold or withdrawn. Good luck with your purchase and enjoy playing whatever you buy.

berlingozzo asked a question 08/01/2012 8:17 pm (4 months ago):

@democrates: thanks for explaining how adverts work, and thanks for the tip about Waltons.
However, it's not fair to say "it's not fair" unless you're sure about what you're saying. First, I haven't asked you to pack the keyboard and move it here just for trying. Second, yes, I posted questions to other items, who tells you I'm not about to buy all of them? As unlikely as that may sound, you made too many (wrong) assumptions.
Third, thanks to your suggestion, I tried a 640 at Waltons, which is the *third* model after your 620, and I realized that for me it's much better to spend 750 euro for the newest model than 445 for the very old one.
Thanks anyway, and good luck with this post!
cheers

p.s. even your last guess was wrong: I decided today to buy the 640, while your post is still active. :)
