Of course, It camse yesterday and I realised straight away that I need a smaller laptop! And then discovered Dell don't accept returns of the Vostros unless theres a fault so I'm stuck with it.

'Dell don't accept returns of the Vostros unless theres a fault'

Surely that's a breach of consumer rights. You have at least 7 working days from date of delivery to decide if you want to keep it, and you can return it within this time without giving any reason.

remus808
remus808 says 17/09/2007 5:01 pm (4 years ago):

Thats what I would have thought! However I bought it as a business customer, and unfortunatley Dell don't give the same Consumer rights to businesses.

lynch_3001
lynch_3001 asked a question 17/09/2007 6:51 pm (4 years ago):

possibly push to 650?

remus808
remus808 says 17/09/2007 7:15 pm (4 years ago):

Sorry Lynch, you could be pushing €750 and still too short. I can't afford to let it go for that little.

shanethemofo
shanethemofo asked a question 17/09/2007 7:26 pm (4 years ago):

would you take 800 for the bag and the laptop?

remus808
remus808 says 17/09/2007 7:27 pm (4 years ago):

No sorry, as I said earlier it's not worth my while accepting offers. This is a brand new laptop, if I was to accept offers I'd only be doing myself out of more money. Last thing I need as a poor student :D I'v already had people expressing interest, willing to pay the asking price (which is well below the cost price!!)
Thanks for your offer all the same though.

lynch_3001
lynch_3001 asked a question 17/09/2007 7:31 pm (4 years ago):

ah...good luck with the sale...one poor student to another

Flaccus
Flaccus asked a question 17/09/2007 8:52 pm (4 years ago):

Hope you find a buyer mate but in case you don't, whoever told you they do not take back systems is talking arse. There is a whole dept. set up in Limerick specifically for this. The law is 7 days...as mentioned earlier under distance selling regs, since you don't have the chance to examine the goods before buying. Dell extend that to 30 days actually. If you push your case you will be fine. Best of luck.

remus808
remus808 says 17/09/2007 8:54 pm (4 years ago):

Again, this is what I would have thought. But it's in the T&C's that Business orders cannot be cancelled/returned unless there is a dell fault.

Surely they wouldn't put that in the Terms & Conditions if it was illegal?

Flaccus
Flaccus asked a question 17/09/2007 8:56 pm (4 years ago):

I am not a lawyer and couldn't give legal advise on how to proceed even if I was, on boards or adverts. But it's common knowledge T&C's don't invalidate your statutory rights. I am sure you will find a buyer anyway, as it's a hard to get system right now.

remus808
remus808 says 17/09/2007 8:57 pm (4 years ago):

Business rights are different to Consumer rights though? Yeah I'v found a buyer for tomorrow I think, just a shame I'm losing money on it.
