Description (updated on 10/02/2012 at 02:41pm):

2008 MacBook Air 1,1 (1st gen) with recent (Nov 2011) RunCore SSD upgrade

This is an older machine that was starting to fade but has been completely transformed by the addition of a RunCore SSD. If you're not familiar with the RunCore SSD, do some research online - benchmarks have shown it with 40 times faster performance than the original Samsung HDD in the MBA. That's what makes this machine run so well even a few years after original release and I'd happily pit it against a new original spec MBA on any "standard usage pattern" type benchmark.

I mainly run Windows 7 on it, which absolutely flies along with full Aero, etc. That said, MacOSX is very responsive with the new drive. Here's a brief video I made to demonstrate the responsiveness immediately after boot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qz9lefcgu7iuwvv/VIDEO0040.3gp (actual machine on sale)

This machine comes with a bunch of extras on top of the basic spec - the awesome Runcore as previously mentioned, a Superdrive (€80 quid to buy), a waterproof soft sleeve case (€20+), original MBA and Snow Leopard install discs, recently replaced power adaptor. See the pictures for more info

But it's not perfect. It's seen good use, not as a primary system but as a backup laptop for travel. There is a scratch on the RHS of the screen, about 2 inches in from the edge. I took a couple of photos, one with the screen off and camera flash on, the second with the screen turned on with a white to show off the scratch as much as possible. The photos show a fair representation of the machine as is, and as it's out of warranty I am selling "as is" (but there are no problems with it apart from the cosmetic).

Basic specs:

1.6 GHz (P7500) Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 MB on-chip L2 cache
2GB RAM
64GB RunCore Pro IV Solid State Drive (SSD) 1.8" PATA ZIF (brand new Nov 2011) (cost €180, plus labour)
Backlit Keyboard
Original MacBook Air Install DVDs
Original MacBook Air Micro DVI Display Adaptors
Original MacBook Air MagSafe Power Adaptor (replaced Dec 2010)

Also included:

MacBook Air Superdrive (USB DVD Writer) (cost €79+)
MacOSX Snow Leopard Install DVD (cost €29+)
MacBook Air Protective Sleeve: Waterproof Cordura outer with microfibre lining (cost: €24+ http://wrappers.typepad.com/ipod/2007/11/cordura-sleeve.html )
RunCore SSD External Case (housing plus USB connector)
The above items in original boxes.

I'm looking for a good enough offer to make it worthwhile for me to part with it :)

Trojan
Trojan says 03/01/2012 8:49 pm (4 months ago):

Hi Diabalo,
I'm provisionally accepting your offer if you can live with a restriction: I'm not in Dublin at the moment and it'll be two weeks before I'll be able to go up. So if you're in a rush to get it, this probably not suitable. That said, if you're happy to wait then I'll come up and meet you, and give you a chance to view and test the performance of the machine. Let me know what suits.
Cheers,
Alastair.

Hi Trojan. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to wait for that amount of time. I need a laptop for everyday use and will more than likely get one sorted very shortly. It's a cool machine and best of luck in the sale.

€350 Offered
hi there, im on a budget at the minute, but i saw you'd accepted 500, so i may as well throw in an offer of the 350 i have at the minute. a little lower than 500 i know, but worth putting in the offer! cheers

Trojan
Trojan says 25/01/2012 6:19 pm (4 months ago):

@ffa26: I'll accept that offer for everything but the SSD drive (i.e. supply your own hard drive). If you're good with that, then offer accepted.

ffa26 asked a question 25/01/2012 6:28 pm (4 months ago):

@ffa26: I can't accept €400, just a bit too low. Get back to me if your other offers don't work out and we can see if we can find a compromise.

Hey without the SSD would a normal 2.5 hdd fit or must it be 1.8 thanks ;]

Trojan
Trojan says 10/02/2012 1:18 pm (3 months ago):

@JaySheridan: It needs to be very specifically a 1.8 PATA ZIF (zero insertion force) disk. Apple making things awkward as usual :)

Adz.ie
Adz.ie asked a question 10/02/2012 2:14 pm (3 months ago):

How old is the battery and what's the battery life like ie how long it runs before needing a charge?

Trojan
Trojan says 10/02/2012 2:39 pm (3 months ago):

@JaySheridan: €350 w/o SSD :)
@Adz.ie: The battery is original, so 2008. Battery life is great in MacOSX but terrible in Windows 7 (which I use more). Apple claimed 5 hours on this, I get about 3-3.5 hours when using MacOSX like watching movies with wifi turned on. In Windows 7, I only got about 2 hours of fairly active use (web browsing with wifi on with Paint.net, MS Word open). I used it a lot on the train, and thank $DEITY for power sockets in the new carriages.
