3870x2 is a single graphics card so its possible that theres two of them in crossfire

why does it have 2 soundcards?

I would definitely say that you only have one 3870x2 and that device manager is reading it wrong, well right really

It is reading 2 GPUs yes, it looks at the 1st one and sees its a 3870x2("3870" the 1st GPU on that card) then looks at the second and read the same but the other way around making it think there are two cards(2 3870x2)
I tested this theory with a 4870x2 in device manager

its definitely only one 3870x2, you can tell by the fact it lists 4 CPU's.

The Mobility Radeon X3870 X2 or CF combines two Mobility Radeon 3870 graphics cards (on MXM boards) in crossfire mode in one laptop. Therefore, the combination has a power consumption of both cards combined. The memory amount still only counts as much as one card has, as each card has to store the same information in it.

The performance is about 0-40% above a single HD 3870 and lies a bit above the GeForce 8800M GTX SLI solution. DirectX 9 games run in high resolution and details fluently. Demanding DX 10 games like Crysis or GTA IV only in medium to high details and low resolution.

As all multi-GPU solutions, the HD 3870 X2 may suffer from micro stuttering (at around 30fps the playback of games still stutters because of different frametimes).

As a single HD 3870, the X2 combination also features Avivo HD to help the CPU decode HD videos.

The power consumption of the combination can be up to 110 Watt alon (as AMD specifies the HD 3800 series with 33-55 Watt per card).

Hi I've got an ESPRIMO Mobile - in Mint Condition - upgraded CPU to T7800 2.6Ghz, 4GB RAM, 320GB 7200 SATA HD, 12.1" 1280x800 Screen, Windows Vista to trade plus case. Still has warrantly till April next year.

you see i have 3 and a half years NBD warrenty left on the studio xps 1640 and its a lot of money to pay for a system without a warrenty i might leave it for a couple of weeks im waiting to buy a i7 quad core which have just hit the retail market sorry the warrenty is a problem best of luck with the sale nice system very powerful

is an outright lie and false advertising. its not even the most powerful Alienware, the M17x is.

oh, and it also does not have "2" sound cards as advertised.

Just to point out your info is not correct, it is a Q9100 processor, not a QX9xxx so it is not an Extreme Processor. Also it has 2x3870 IN CROSSFIRE, not 2x2x3870. Also It has one sound card as rightly pointed out by Menengroth.

It is over 3500 Euros when new as you say, cause I was just with a friend who has what appears to be the exact same one as yours. and he paid just under 3500, with the illuminated keyboard and no Blue ray (which I assume yours don't either?).

To end all confusion and thread spoiling just run these to programs
