Description (updated on 15/06/2011 at 10:24pm):
Putting this up on here for sale, as no trading offers from the retroheads on Boards ;-).
See this Boards.ie thread for further details: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056256688
In brief, this sale is for:
- Sega Gamegear and original instructions manual
- TV tuner, clip-on metal u-bracket and original instructions manual
- Nuby SMS cart adapter
- DC mains adapter (Sega branded)
- Columns in plastic hard shell with original instructions manual
- Leaderboard, boxed (with clear plastic insert), in plastic hard shell with original instructions manual
- Logic 3 padded case
The Gamegear is really clean and works perfectly. The sound is good [UPDATE: BUT LOW/QUIET], the screen is good, the sound and brightness wheels are fine and working, as are the controls (d-pad, start/A/B buttons). The D-pad feels very slightly loose to the touch (less than 1mm 'wiggle' kind of thing).
Everything is in very good to near-new condition. Everything tested, except the Nuby adapter (no SMS cart at hand). The TV tuner and the Nuby adapter are like 'just out of the box'.
Asking price based on May 2011 eBay UK completed auction (not Buy-It-Now) prices for same items/combos in same condition.
My location is indicated as Dublin by default, but I'm in the UK these days, therefore posting only. Asking price includes P&P, will be signed for/registered. If you want to arrange alternative shipping, collection or your own courrier, I really don't mind.

thelastangryman asked a question 01/06/2011 12:10 pm (11 months ago):Offer 30 for the lot.
Are the battery hatches solid? The clips are unbroken?
Den85 asked a question 01/06/2011 12:15 pm (11 months ago):Any chance you'd be up for swapping for a rare Starcraft USB dog tag?
http://www.adverts.ie/other-consoles-games/rare-starcraft-jim-raynor-usb-dog-tag/580335
Or a NTSC Saturn with a blown fuse?

Just thought I'd ask anyway. Thanks!
ambro25 says 01/06/2011 4:04 pm (11 months ago):@thelastangryman: battery hatches solid, clips unbroken, battery wells minty fresh (they're that clean, it looks like the GG's never been used on batteries!) Offer noted with thanks, but too low, sorry.
@Den85: thanks for the offer, but I'm not interested in either item.
Den85 asked a question 01/06/2011 4:11 pm (11 months ago):No probs, mate. By the way, does the tv tuner actualy work nowadays?
ambro25 says 01/06/2011 4:24 pm (11 months ago):@Den85: The tuner works fine, the second photo shows it displaying BBC1's Antiques Roadshow (-ish...photo is not great and I live in an analogue reception 'black hole' over here). That was back in late April/early May 2011.
I don't expect it will be much use after the digital switchover, of course (don't know when that will happen/if it has already happened in Ireland), but it's really for completists ;-)
BTW, the TV tuner has an AUX input, so you can use the GG as e.g. as a repeater screen for a camcorder or whatnot (anything with analogue AV out, really).
ambro25 says 01/06/2011 4:29 pm (11 months ago):I should also precise that the TV tuner comes WITH the original clip-on metal u-bracket/stand (to lean the GG at an angle and offset the weight of the aerial).
Den85 asked a question 01/06/2011 4:42 pm (11 months ago):I think the best I could do would be 40, mate.
Let me know what you think :)
kieranaryan asked a question 01/06/2011 4:57 pm (11 months ago):I'll offer you 45 euro.
drwilkie asked a question 01/06/2011 9:31 pm (11 months ago):hey just wondering would you wait till Tuesday and ill give you 50
ambro25 says 02/06/2011 10:36 am (11 months ago):IMPORTANT UPDATE - I had a play with it last night with the Columns cart, to re-check everything prior to sale, and the sound now seems tinny. The sounds works, there is no distortion or crackling or any such blemish, but it just seems 'quiet' at max volume.
Odd, as when I tried it with the 2 carts and the tuner back in April, I recall the sound being louder
As I don't have another Gamegear to check what is the 'normal' sound level on these, please assume that it has the "sound capacitor issue", and I have revised my asking accordingly (minus €10).
For fairness to all, I will ignore all offers made on the thread prior to this post. To current potential buyers, please revise your offer if you are still interested.
Den85 asked a question 02/06/2011 12:04 pm (11 months ago):Assuming the sound works grand with earphones plugged in I'd happily offer my 40 euro again.
ambro25 says 02/06/2011 12:50 pm (11 months ago):@Den85: The sound works (in stereo) with headphones plugged in about half-way, doesn't work with headphones plugged in all the way (could be the headphones, as I've 'borrowed' them from an audiotypist desk LOL!).
It's not as tinny as through the speaker, but it's not "loud-loud" either. Again, I'm not sure how loud it should be on max audio?
ambro25 says 02/06/2011 12:52 pm (11 months ago):The jack doesn't move about when plugged in half-way, btw, seems like a normal jack seating/position? Any enlightened poster on here to advise?
drwilkie asked a question 02/06/2011 12:58 pm (11 months ago):this happens with age with most game gears either the screen or sound will go due to a part of the circuit board blowing but if you know how to use a soldering gun and use a good internet guide it should be no problem to fix because the parts that blow are usually just normal electronics and can be picked up in stores like maplins and peats in the city centre
Den85 asked a question 07/06/2011 5:41 pm (11 months ago):Hey man,
Sorry I didn't get back but I just had to seriously reconsider my offer. I think keeping in mind that the sound may get worse (as I'm useless soldering) I'll offer 30 euro.
Thanks, mate!
Relikk asked a question 13/06/2011 10:34 pm (11 months ago):Offer asking.
ambro25 says 15/06/2011 10:23 pm (11 months ago):Thanks much for the offers, but this has since been sold elsewhere.
