Description (updated on 30/03/2012 at 11:07pm):
A great educational tool and functional true 64bit VLIW (EPIC) type system. This model is in Workstation mode but can be converted to a rack server with a kit from HP.
Comes with:
2x 1.5GHz Itanium2 CPUs
6GB DDR
2x 73GB SCSI HDDs (1x 10,000 and 1x 15,000RPM)
ATI Radeon HD graphics card.
AGP Pro Slot
USB Keyboard and Mouse
Whats good about the ZX6000 is its small and quiet enough to be used as a workstation (and looks good too) and its got an AGP Pro slot unlike the PCI-X only server only systems.

Only selling as I need the cash for other more mundane things and this is a luxury item for me (purely bought 2 years ago for the geek and learning appeal).
I have it running Gentoo but ran Debian and Ubuntu (no longer supported) on it too. I even compiled IoQuake3 to run as a native IA64 binary too. :)
Do not confuse this with consumer grade Intel or AMD CPUs (ie x64) this is a true IA64 system.

kaziol66666 asked a question 06/04/2012 2:21 pm (1 month ago):Hi
Does it come with hp-ux ?
Cheers
Matt Simis says 06/04/2012 8:25 pm (1 month ago):Nope, gentoo. Assume you can put hp-Ux on it if you wanted.
LVA asked a question 17/04/2012 7:18 am (1 month ago):With the risk of sounding silly, because I know these machines aren't exactly small nor light - would it be possible to ship, and if yes, what would shipping to Belgium cost? Thanks.
Matt Simis says 17/04/2012 6:56 pm (1 month ago):@LVA:
Well i bought it from the US originally and think it cost around $120 to ship. Its only marginally bigger than a typical PC tower (and assume slightly heavier). I have no problem using a Courier to ship, where this usually falls down is people back out last min when they see the price!
You can check it out yourself on GLS, UPS, DHL etc.
LVA asked a question 17/04/2012 8:58 pm (1 month ago):Aha - excellent, Thanks for the quick reply. I'll check if shipping would be affordable. According to the quickspecs online, the machine should be around 25kgs, and about 50x30x70xm in size; is that correct?
Matt Simis says 18/04/2012 6:52 pm (1 month ago):@LVA: That does indeed sound roughly correct, I won't be home till the weekend to confirm though!
LVA placed offer 19/04/2012 10:06 pm (1 month ago):€300 Offered
I've contacted GLS, and they confirmed they can ship the machine to Belgium for €47 if it fits in their "XL Parcel Max 300cm" (see http://www.gls-group.eu/276-I-PORTAL-WEB/content/GLS/IE01/EN/5010.htm ); according to the quickspecs it should, but if you could confirm this, I'd be most glad to buy this machine from you :-)
Two quick questions (not important, just curiousity): what type of AGP graphics does it have, if any, and is a disk bracket available for the third (empty) drive? I have enough drives here, but no brackets.
You can contact me directly at lennert {at} vanalboom {dot} org, will be a bit easier to communicate than via this website.
Thanks!
Matt Simis says 20/04/2012 2:45 pm (1 month ago):I'll be back home tomorrow and will check the dimensions etc. gfx wise it's got a decent Radeon in there, the best one that is supported with 3d by the open source radeon driver.
I only have the hdd rails for one drive, the other I just left in the bay.
LVA asked a question 23/04/2012 9:47 am (1 month ago):No problem - I'll check around if I can find one or two of those drive caddies locally (shouldn't be too hard). Let me know if you know anything about packaging & shipping. :-)
Matt Simis says 23/04/2012 12:04 pm (1 month ago):@LVA:
It measures about 75x35x50, so adding 5cm for packaging on all dimensions it does indeed still fit the EUR47 GLS shipping. I havent weighed it as I cannot find the scales, but it should just come in under the 30kg limit when packaged.
If you want to go ahead, I can take PayPal, PM me and Ill give you the address. thanks.
