Description (updated on 14/07/2011 at 10:30pm):
Condition: New
MPEG 4 HD Digital STB for RTE new service. Connects to SCART connector or HDMI connector on TV. Fits behind TV and cannot be seen on most TVs. Gives full HD if the HDMI cable is used. Downsample for the SCART connector. Gives very good picture on HD. Low power in use (8W and less than 1W on stand-by).
Price reduced - I got some more at a better price.
Works on all channels. RTE 1, RTE2 HD, TV3, TG4, 3E, RTE NewsNow, etc.
EPG - Electronic programme guide. Does not have MHEG5, so only does Aertel teletext.
Comes with 13Amp power unit, Aerial cable and HDMI cable. Remote control, etc.
Manual
Default country code = Ireland
Can record programmes using a USB memory stick, or a powered USB hard disk. Only single tuner so will only record from the same mux as the programme being watched. This means that at the moment, you can watch one and record another.
Will wake up from stand-by for recording.
Easy installation, connect up and power up and tune it.
Great bargain. €50 including cables, batteries, etc. Cash only. Postage is extra at cost. Collection from Ballsbridge.
I have added a few photos to show how flexible it is for connecting via SCART. The unit can swivel to almost any position and can sit next to an occupied scart socket.
Works on CRT or LED TVs with SCART or HDMI connection. Will convert a Freeview (MPEG2) TV to receive RTE etc. with excellent picture.
Postage is €6 for ordinary, extra for recorded deliver or registered. (Posted weight is 600 gram. small packet)
More than ten available.

Hi Sam,

johnpauls asked a question 19/04/2011 10:56 pm (1 year ago):Sam will this give RTE on a LIDL satellite. Sorry if this is a stupid question
Sam Russell says 19/04/2011 11:49 pm (1 year ago):@johnpauls: It will work brilliantly with a Lidl satellite setup. Connect the box using HDMI cable if you can and you will get RTE etc. When you want to switch to the satellite, press the red TV/SAT button on the Lidl remote and it will switch between the satellite and terestrial. You control the sound and volume with the appropriate reote without touching the one for the TV.
This does not work if both satellite and STB work on HDMI. [It's to do with the way SCART works].
It is the way I use mine.
johnpauls asked a question 19/04/2011 11:59 pm (1 year ago):thanks Sam, can I collect one from you tomorrow? I live in Sandymount.
Sam Russell says 20/04/2011 8:43 am (1 year ago):@johnpauls: No problem. I'll PM my address.

drykin asked a question 31/05/2011 10:04 am (11 months ago):I'd like to take one please. €50. Can collect in Ballsbridge if you suggest a suitable time.
Sam Russell says 31/05/2011 10:12 am (11 months ago):@dangermouse1: It is a winner of a box. Unfortunately I cannot afford to reduce the price, but they are great value at the current price. If you want to buy one first to see how good they are, that would be the best plan, as I am not far from you. They come with everything you need, already configured for Ireland so it is a case of plug and play.
Sam Russell says 31/05/2011 10:13 am (11 months ago):@drykin: PM sent
dangermouse1 asked a question 01/06/2011 1:01 pm (11 months ago):Quick question.
I plan to plug this into the back of my DVD recorder via scart+hdmi to my TV, whether i do this or plug it directly to my wall mounted tv the remote for the DVB won't have anything close to a direct line of sight.
Can i tune channels in via the DVD/TV's tuner or if not how will this work as i don't wanna stand up waving the remote to change the channels lol?
Cheers
DM
Sam Russell says 01/06/2011 5:52 pm (11 months ago):@dangermouse1: The remote talks to a little IR device with a sticky pad on the back which gets stuck onto anything nearby, usually the TV. You might need a longer HDMI cable than the one supplied if you connect it to the DVD, but that arrangement should work for you. You will need to use the device's remote, but you could program a 'one4all' remote, but that would depend on the particular one you get. That particular arrangement you are talking about is a clever use of the device. You can also add a HDD to record using the device itself, and it can also record a channel while you watch another one on the same mux. As we currently only have one mux, then you can watch and record.

Hygro asked a question 08/06/2011 11:00 am (11 months ago):Hi, am I right in saying that you need a freeview tv for this to work?
Sam Russell says 08/06/2011 11:21 am (11 months ago):No you are not right. This will work with any TV that has a SCART or HDMI connector. Most TVs have this.
It will work with any TV. It allows the aerial signal to pass through so does not interfere with the existing use of the TV. If you do not have an aerial, you will need one. Let me know where you live and I can advise you on the type you need. For most people in Dublin, a simple aerial is all you need. Check out saorview.ie for more information on this.
Hygro asked a question 08/06/2011 2:02 pm (11 months ago):Hi, that's cool. I'm based in clontarf, but have no aerial on the house. Would an rabbits ears type one do?
Hygro asked a question 08/06/2011 2:04 pm (11 months ago):sorry, another question, would this also get freeview uk channels? as I wouldn't really be interested in just saorview.
Sam Russell says 08/06/2011 2:37 pm (11 months ago):@Hygro: The rabbits ears probably would do the job for you. Depends on local conditions, but I get three rock here in Ballsbridge on a simple aerial.
The UK channels can be received on the device but probably not in Clontarf. It will not receive the FreeviewHD signals as they are DVB-T2 while it will receive Freeview as they are downward compatible with our system. If you want UK TV for free, then a sat dish and a FTA receiver is probably your best bet. Do any of your neighbours have an aerial errected to get Freeview? You would notice as it would be above chimney level.
grayface asked a question 08/06/2011 6:50 pm (11 months ago):Willing to offer asking price,if you can post to Cork.
Sam Russell says 08/06/2011 10:35 pm (11 months ago):@grayface: PM sent. Cork is no problem. Postage costs the stamp which is €6. They usually arrive the next day depending on your local post.
grayface asked a question 08/06/2011 11:14 pm (11 months ago):Cheers and thanks, pm sent in return

carraigarock asked a question 15/06/2011 10:05 pm (11 months ago):I live in Donegal and hope to get to Dublin around end of month i might be interested in Digital TV adapter STB for Irish Digital Service, have you a shop or where could i pick one up, thanks.
Sam Russell says 15/06/2011 11:36 pm (11 months ago):@carraigarock: I live in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4. I could post it to you, the stamp costs €6, and generally they arrive next day, depending on your local post. I do not have a shop I'm afraid, but you can pick one up fron my house. If you want it posted, you can pay by lodging the money to my account in the Bank of Ireland, either in a branch (where they accept cash) or using 365online. That way the money goes directly into my account. If you lodge into another bank it takes a few days to clear.
If you want to collect at my home that is fine also. PM me if you want further details.
In the old days asked a question 29/06/2011 9:16 pm (10 months ago):Sam, Any idea how these work in a border area where saorview and freeview are both possible on the Irish settings. I appreciate that the NI hd channels will not be possible but can it integrate the NI sd channels plus saorview.
Sam Russell says 29/06/2011 11:25 pm (10 months ago):@In the old days: I have no reports either way. I expect that the channels will be integrated into the box. The country code is set to Ireland or UK, so that bit will work. When set to Ireland, RTE1 is at 1, so that works. I suspect that the UK channels will be added either at a high number or else in the order they are discovered. The HD channels from the UK are using DVB-T2 which this box will not receive, so they will not be seen.
I must ask someone who has tied it. I cannot get the UK stuff here. I will get back in the next day or so.
gcsherwood asked a question 07/07/2011 5:02 pm (10 months ago):I know this is short notice, but I'm up in Donegal and will be in Dublin tomorrow, Fri 8 Jul around noon. Would you be available around that time (any place, as long as I -- or my gps -- can find it)? Sorry about the short notice....
Sam Russell says 07/07/2011 7:23 pm (10 months ago):@gcsherwood: PM sent.
