Antique James Duncan JD Glass Codd Neck Bottle Featuring a Marble Stopper Designed to hold carbonated drinks under pressure. Design: Made of thick pale green or aqua glass, it includes a glass marble inside the neck that seals the bottle when pushed up by the gas pressure of the drink. Mechanism: To open it, the marble is pushed down into a specially shaped chamber in the neck to allow the drink to pour out without blocking the flow. History: Invented by Hiram Codd in 1872, these bottles were commonly used for mineral water and sodas until the 1920s.
