Selling my 1992 Yamaha XV750 Virago after putting a considerable amount of work into getting the bike mechanically right and giving it a good cosmetic refresh.

I originally bought the bike as a project with a running issue on the rear cylinder. Rather than simply getting it running well enough to move on, I stripped into the problem properly, found the underlying faults and repaired them.

The bike is now running properly on both cylinders, starts and idles well, pulls as it should.

Recent mechanical work includes:
• Rear cylinder head removed and inspected
• Bent intake valve replaced
• Bent exhaust valve replaced
• Both valves lapped and checked for correct sealing
• Valve clearances checked and set
• Compression checked following reassembly
• Cylinder head reassembled with replacement gaskets/seals
• Cam timing checked and correctly set
• Carburettors removed, inspected, cleaned and adjusted
• New spark plugs fitted
• Rectifier replaced
• New battery fitted
• Rear suspension/shocks replaced
• Front forks refreshed/rebuilt.
• New front brake pads fitted
• Clutch lever replaced
• Front brake lever replaced
• Final drive/shaft drive serviced
• General servicing and inspection carried out during reassembly

Also included with the bike are a brand-new front tyre and brand-new rear tyre, ready to be fitted when required.

While the bike was apart I also took the opportunity to clean up and refresh a lot of the chassis and smaller components. The frame and various brackets/components were cleaned, prepared, rust treated where required and repainted before the bike was reassembled.

The air-injection/emissions system had already been removed by a previous owner, and the associated ports have been properly dealt with.

Cosmetically, there are two areas I deliberately haven't restored.

The seat has not been retrimmed or restored, so that is something the next owner could do if they wanted to take the cosmetics further.

I also deliberately chose not to repaint the fuel tank. It still retains the original Yamaha styling and detailing on the sides, and I didn't want to lose that by simply spraying the tank a solid colour. It shows some age, as you'd expect from a 1992 bike, but I preferred keeping its original character.

This isn't being advertised as a concours restoration. It's a 1992 motorcycle that has had a substantial amount of mechanical work and a good cosmetic refresh while still retaining some of its original appearance.

Reason for sale:
I originally bought the Virago partly because I wanted another project and I've enjoyed getting the bike back to where it should be mechanically.
After riding it, however, I've realised that the cruiser riding position simply isn't for me. I've previously owned sports bikes and the more forward/sporty riding position suits me much better, so I'd rather move the Virago on to somebody who will get more enjoyment out of it.

The bike is still being taken out for occasional rides, so the mileage may increase slightly.
