There’s unconventional and then there’s Max Busser. Anyone who has been even peripherally interested in high-end watchmaking over the last few years knows Max Busser’s name or the name of his company, MB&F. Famed for some incredibly avant-garde timepieces that defy logic and reason, MB&F has built a name for itself as one of the finest high-end independent watchmakers in the world, but given just how expensive their watches are (well into the six figures), Max thought it was prudent to launch a diffusion brand in 2021 known as M.A.D. Editions. Originally available only to friends and family, their launches have since expanded with a raffle system that allows a small number of lucky winners (relative to the numbers of applications) to be graced with the opportunity to buy Max’s unique creations at a fraction of the cost of his full-priced models from MB&F.

Offered here, we have the M.A.D. 2 REDemption, the second creation from the M.A.D. Editions brand. Maintaining the ethos of the original M.A.D. Editions 1 with its rather unusual time-telling display, the M.A.D. 2 introduces a much more wearable silhouette to the sub-brand with a 42mm stainless steel case that combines a round case with a thin 12.3mm profile that defies its unique display and wears like a “normal” watch. Featuring two rotating rings, its display also acts like a more traditional dial than the M.A.D. 1, with each ring rotating to show the hours and minutes as they related to the fixed central triangular pointers.

The “REDemption” variant, the example we have here is exceptionally rare with only those who have lost a minimum of four M.A.D. Edition’s raffles eligible to buy the watch. Featuring black raised subdial rings on a red backdrop, the REDemption reverses the publicly available variant’s colourway (black backdrop with red subdials) for a punchier aesthetic that carries the exact kind of design language that has made Max Busser the household name in the watchmaking industry that he is today.

Presented in unworn condition, this example is completely free from any signs of use. It is sold with its original box, leather strap, and stainless steel deployant buckle. Retailed by the brand without guarantee papers (no M.A.D. Editions watches are sold with papers), this example therefore lacks guarantee papers.
