Cornishware Bowl T.G.Green

Description

Founded by Thomas G. Green, one of the company’s most popular lines was always Cornishware, which was first produced in 1924.This is the original producers of the product known as Cornishware In the 1960s, Cornishware’s look was updated by talented young designer Judith Onions, and the restyled range was embraced as warmly as the originals. Over the past 20 years Onions’ designs, as well as the older ranges, have become highly prized by collectors, commanding ever-increasing prices.
Sadly for T.G.Green as time went on, it became increasingly difficult for the Victorian pottery workshop to compete with modern industry. After a series of different owners tried their best the save the business, it closed down in 2007. The business, which was first created by the TG Green pottery company in 1924, is now under new ownership , who rescued the firm from administration in 2008. In 2009, reluctantly, the new team started production abroad in attempt to secure supply at a reasonable cost but remained committed to bringing production back to England. Some of the Cornishware is now being produced in England again although in Stoke-on-Trent and decorated by a team in the West Country. All the ware is hand painted so there can be variations. A green back-stamp denotes the new Made in England products whilst other lines are made in other countries.

This item has some age and is in an excellent used condition. There is some light crazing throughout the piece but can only be seen if up close to the piece. There are 2 small chips on the rim of the lid (see photos)The blue ring nearest the handle fades from a darker blue into slightly lighter blue (the item is hand painted see photos) otherwise it is in excellent condition and a very prized item coming from the company which originally produced the design which has been copied by many other companies including our own Carrigaline Potteries.
The bowl is 10cm high (not including the lid) diameter is 20cm to the inner rim.
