Fabulous & Collectable Booths Real Old Willow 8.5" Salad Plate in the Mid Blue, Sepia & Gilt Version

I am continuing my effort to downsize, in advance of all our possessions having to go back into storage again in the next few months (the builders keep changing the dates!)

I have quite the selection of Blue and White and Willow Pattern which I have collected over the years and used for buffets, afternoon teas, and for display on my kitchen dresser, (which I no longer have) but I have too much for my needs, and so this fabulous plate can now go!

This pattern is one of the most decorative and collectable of all the willow patterns.
Second-hand Booths/Royal Doulton “Real Old Willow” demands a high price, especially now that it is no longer produced.

This willow pattern is particularly striking with a lovely tonal balance between the blue and white areas of pattern. Outside of this is a decorative trellis banding in either gilt or sepia or both (see below). Outside again is a wide decorative blue and white band featuring various abstract repeat patterns.

These details make for a very striking overall composition and obviously this is part of the reason for the pattern’s popularity. The other reason would be the Booths company and latterly Royal Doulton’s reputations for producing quality china.

Booths produced three distinct versions of their Real Old Willow pattern:
Gold (full gilt with the inner decorative band also in gilt)
Brown (no gilt with the inner decorative band in sepia)
Gold & Brown (inner decorative band in sepia but two inner bands and the edges are in gilt)

This 8.5 inch/21.5 cm Salad Plate is an example of the Gold & Brown range which was introduced during the second world war (along with the brown range) when gold was at a premium.

The plate is in very good vintage condition. The colour is bright and there are no cracks or crazing, as good as the day it was made with just some minor gilt rubbing to the edge.
