Stunning, Deco-style sculpture, hand-built ceramic by Belfast born artist, Carol Henry (b.1960).
Carol Henry graduated Art College in 1988 and has worked as both an illustrator and an art technician.
Her sculptures have been exhibited in a range of local galleries over the last 10 years and each has demonstrated her interest in the human form. Carol regards her sculptures as abstract portraits, ‘originating in the imagination’, stating that ‘sculpture allows me to explore human characteristics while experimenting with form and texture.
I am drawn to the visual depth and three-dimensional challenges of sculpture. I believe that this medium, by inhabiting real space, asks to be touched and rewards attention from all angles. It has a sensual presence, colour and texture combining to create a complete visual and tactile experience’.
This stunning piece was hand built from clay on 1998 - a relatively early piece. It oozes Deco influence and complements Mid Century or contemporary design interiors.
It has been hand decorated and glazed in a deep blue finish and standing at 42cm in height and with a width of approximately 37cm, makes an eye catching statement in any setting.
Perfect condition and fully incised signature and date to the base, Carol’s work is increasing sought after and a quarter of a century on, you’ll not find a better piece.
