Late Victorian Anglo-Indian Carved Chaise Longue

Description

A striking late 19th-century (c. 1880–1900) Victorian chaise longue in the Anglo-Indian style, combining ornate historic craftsmanship with a unique Dublin history, having been purchased directly from the Abbey Theatre where it was previously used as a stage prop.

Craftsmanship & Construction

Frame & Carvings: Built from dark, solid hardwood featuring intricate, hand-carved, pierced openwork lattice/fretwork along the lower backrail and side panel.

Turned Details: Features classically turned legs resting on their original metal/ceramic casters, alongside a turned end-post.

Upholstery & Interior: Retains its original traditional horsehair stuffing—a mark of genuine high-end 19th-century upholstery—giving the scroll headrest and seat excellent structure. Reupholstered in a clean, soft floral brocade fabric.

Condition
In solid, stable structural condition. The carved timber frame shows a rich natural patina consistent with its age. The fabric is clean and free of tears, ready for immediate display or use in a home or studio setting.
