José Ramírez SP: Specifications of a Classic Spanish Guitar
The José Ramírez Sp is a celebrated model from the esteemed Spanish guitar makers, falling within their "Estudio" or Studio line. These instruments are renowned for their quality craftsmanship and rich, characteristic Spanish sound, making them a popular choice for serious students and accomplished players alike. While slight variations may exist depending on the year of manufacture, the core specifications of the José Ramírez Sp classical guitar are as follows:
Body and Sound:
* Top (Soundboard): The Sp exclusively features a solid Red Cedar top. This choice of wood is crucial for the guitar's warm, mellow, and full-bodied tone, which opens up and matures over time.
* Back and Sides: The back and sides are crafted from solid Indian Rosewood. This dense and visually appealing wood contributes to the guitar's powerful projection, rich overtones, and clear note separation.
* Body Binding: The body is typically bound with Indian Rosewood, providing a refined aesthetic and protecting the edges of the instrument.
* Rosette: The soundhole is adorned with an intricate and colorful wood mosaic rosette, a signature of the Ramírez workshop's artistry.
Neck and Fingerboard:
* Neck: The neck is constructed from Spanish Cedar (Cedrela odorata), a stable and lightweight wood that is comfortable to play. For added stability, the neck is often reinforced with an internal strip of ebony.
* Fingerboard: The fingerboard is made of Ebony, a durable and smooth wood that allows for effortless fretting and articulation.
* Scale Length: The standard scale length for the 5p is 650mm (approximately 25.6 inches), a common scale for classical guitars that offers a balance of comfortable reach and optimal string tension.
* Nut Width: The nut width is typically 52mm (approximately 2.05 inches), providing ample spacing for the fingers of the right hand in classical playing style.
Hardware and Finish:
* Bridge: The bridge is crafted from Indian Rosewood, complementing the back and sides.
* Saddle and Nut: Both the saddle and the nut are traditionally made from bone, which enhances sustain and tonal transfer.
* Tuners: The guitar is fitted with high-quality, gold-plated tuning machines that offer smooth and precise tuning.
* Finish: The José Ramírez Sp features a high-gloss polyurethane finish. This durable finish protects the wood while allowing it to resonate freely.
Origin:
* All José Ramírez Sp guitars are proudly made in Spain, carrying on a luthier tradition that dates back to 1882.
In essence, the José Ramírez Sp is a high-quality, all-solid wood instrument that embodies the heritage and sonic excellence of one of the world's most respected guitar-making families. Its thoughtful construction and material selection result in a guitar with a professional-level sound and playability.
