The fourth issue of the new Lunar Series was struck by the Royal Australian Mint from one ounce of 99.9% silver and is dedicated to the Year of the Rabbit. Following the tiger, the ox and the rat, the rabbit is the fourth animal in the Chinese zodiac calendar. The motive features a rabbit surrounded by plantain lilies. The plants are symbolic for joy, harmony and innocence and emphasize the qualities associated with the rabbit. In addition, the inscription “YEAR OF THE RABBIT”, the Chinese character for “rabbit” and the weight and fineness are engraved. The reverse features the lunar calendar wheel, with all 12 animals on the wheel, the Jody Clark portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination and the year of issue.
The Rabbit is popular everywhere and a good companion, distinguished especially by its patience and good nature. Rabbits are known for their sense of art and often make the right decisions based on their instincts. Despite their popularity, they shy away from change and are often insecure and rather pessimistic. The limited Year of the Rabbit Premium Silver Bullion Coin is delivered in a protective capsule.
Obverse: the coin shows the bust of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by artist Jody Clark. The 12 lunar animals of the Chinese Zodiac surround the Queen’s bust in a circle around the coin’s rim. Inscriptions include The Queen’s name, “AUSTRALIA”, the coin’s denomination, and the year of mintage.
Reverse: features a rabbit surrounded by plantain lilies. The plants are symbolic for joy, harmony and innocence and emphasize the qualities associated with the rabbit, designed by Bronwyn King. Inscriptions include “YEAR OF THE RABBIT” and the weight and purity of the coin.
