France 2 Euro Reverse Proof Coin 2025 - Louvre Museum

Description

For Sale:
France 2 Euro Base Metals Reverse Proof Coin 2025 - Louvre Museum

Sellers Note:
This coin is of 'Reverse Proof' Quality.
Like Proof coins; Reverse Proof coins are struck twice with specially prepared dies, which are typically polished between strikes.
Reverse Proof €2CC's are releativly new breed of coin with the first Reverse Proof €2CC was issued in 2024; I believe was the 'Eiffel Tower' French coin.
Now San Marino and Luxembourg are also minting reverse proof coins.
The Reverse Proof coins have the same design as their Proof counterparts; however the 'frosted' parts and 'smooth' parts are reversed.
Personally I think this additional variety is a little too much; countries are limited to two 2ECC's per year (three if they issue a 'common-issue' such as the Erasmus coin) and this is a way of issuing another 2ECC without breaking the rule.
I wouldn't mind so much if the quantities where high but they are usually very limited; making them yet another expensive 2ECC for the collection.
Given that; I would again recommend a 2ECC collection containing at least one Reverse Proof coin; the main reason being is that this 'reversing' of the frosted and smooth parts does not just apply to the reverse side of the coin but interestingly it also applies to the common obverse side.

Description:
It was then a military establishment that served in particular to protect Paris from invasions. Over the centuries, the Louvre was transformed into a royal residence, notably under Francis I, who undertook extensive work to transform it into a sumptuous palace. It was only after the French Revolution, in 1793, that it became a museum open to the public, housing a collection of works of art for the people.

Today, its collections, which are among the finest in the world, span several millennia and a territory that stretches from America to the borders of Asia. It is also the most visited museum in the world, with no fewer than 8.9 million visitors in 2023. Among its most famous works, the Louvre notably boasts the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo, the Seated Scribe, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, and the Code of Hammurabi.

The obverse of this coin, titled Musée du Louvre, depicts Perrault's Colonnade, the eastern façade of the building overlooking the Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois church. This exterior façade fits into the museum's plan, which includes the RF, the year, and the various markings. In the background, the Louvre pyramid stands out from its structure, which crisscrosses the coin's background.
