Proof coins are struck twice with specially prepared dies, which are typically polished between strikes.
This process produces exceptional sharpness and a highly reflective finish.
While Proof coins share the same design as their uncirculated counterparts, they are fundamentally different: the relief is higher, the fields are smoother and more mirror-like, and the overall design appears more prominent and refined.

In 2023, the World Youth Day (WYD) meets in Lisbon, it is a meeting of young people from all over the world with the Pope.
It is, at the same time, a pilgrimage and a youth festival, which aims to promote the universal principles of peace, unity and fraternity among peoples and nations.
To mark this historic moment, the Portuguese Republic issues a €2.00 commemorative coin.
The author invited to design it was the sculptor João Duarte.
