Vintage Bonwit Teller long cotton shirt dress. Dates from 1960s - 1970s. Shirt collar and front ten-button closure. Long sleeve single-button cuff. Tan/brown-tone ethnic-style print. No size or fabric tags. Probably UK Size 16. Quality fabric and tailoring, may be cotton mix. Back length 45"/115cm. Chest 40"/102cm. Width hips 42"/107cm. See photos. Vintage pre-owned garment imported from US in 2023 but never worn. Cost including postage and VAT was €105. Sell €45.
Bonwit Teller & Co. was an American luxury department store in New York City founded by Paul Bonwit in 1895.
The Bonwit Teller's flagship uptown building at Fifth Avenue and 56th Street had a dinstinctive entrance with limestone relief panels (see last photo). The store developed into a chain of luxury department stores which specialized in high-end women's apparel. The firm closed in 2000.
