What jailbreak means: Amazon is not in control of the device anymore. You have full ownership over it. No account needed, no ads on the lockscreen, and you can put any book on it you want, from anywhere.

KOReader is installed instead of Amazon's stock reader — better font and margin control, built-in dictionary, opens pretty much any format you throw at it.

Loading books is just plug in the cable and drag them across, like a USB stick. Or over SSH if that's your thing.


Around 1.5 GB of memory — plenty for text books, not enough for PDFs or manga.

Physical page-turn buttons, weeks of battery on a charge.
