Does this not need a license? If it does then it’s not a bicycle under Irish law and shouldn’t be advertised as one here on adverts.
@legosaurus: all bikes can be driven by taking insurance and registration.
People also drive on private roads. So they can always buy even without insurance and registration and drive on private roads

@legosauras to be fair the seller is not advertising the bike to be on public roads. that is down to the buyer if they want to go down that road of registering it and doing whatever else needed.no law is broken as this is still an ebike that can be bought for off-road experiences ..if you are worried then register it and you be ok ..I doubt it be that expensive
Windowuser: all I said is that under Irish law this is not a bicycle. I think that’s relevant. And why these vehicles should be advertised in a category for self propelled vehicles like a motorcycle.
I understand but I think it's a bit of a gray area between en ebike and a zero emissions scooter or motorbike.
That's probably why it's hard to govern what's an ebike and what isn't and that's probably why it can be sold as an ebike aside from the regulations in Ireland ..it really is hard to govern I'd imagine as there is a lot of ambiguity out there in terms of what an item can sold under but I know where your coming from

Whether it's right or wrong there is a loop hole there it seems for products to be sold as ebikes instead of mpvs
I hear you…. I do think the definition of an e-bike is pretty clear. It is bike that is pedal assisted and stops providing power when you stop pedaling. It’s also an e-bike when it’s power and speed fallers within the legal range. That’s not the case with this new breed of vehicles which is why they fall under the category of e-moped under irish law, usually require a license and can’t be used by anyone under 16. Ive no problem with these being advertised here on adverts but I do think they should be in a category that is accurate to what they are.
