Vintage Early 1970s Sakai SG-Style Electric Guitar - Made in Japan - MIJ

A really characterful vintage Japanese guitar with plenty of genuine age and patina. Double-cutaway SG-style body in a dark cherry/burgundy finish, two covered pickups, zero fret, vintage open-gear tuners and the unusual spring-loaded tremolo/vibrato system. No trem arm but I have seen them for sale on Reverb for around €15. I just dont use trems so didnt bother getting one.

The neck plate is clearly stamped “MADE IN JAPAN.”

The guitar is fully playable and the electronics are working correctly. Both pickups, controls and selector switch work. The neck is straight and it plays nicely, particularly in the lower positions.

As you'd expect from a roughly 50-year-old guitar, it isn't perfect and I'm listing the faults clearly:

There is a previously repaired crack at/around the neck joint. The repair is solid and the guitar plays normally and hasnt cause me any issues in use.

The nut has been replaced at some point but isnt a professional job so you might want to change it at some point, but its working fine.

Action is good down the lower end of the neck but gets a little higher around the 12th fret.

One fret has a small amount of buzz and would likely benefit from some attention as part of a setup.

There are various scratches, marks, finish wear and tarnishing to the hardware consistent with its age. Overall, it presents well for its age.

I've deliberately left the guitar in its aged condition rather than trying to polish away the vintage patina.

An interesting piece of 1970s Japanese guitar manufacturing and something considerably less common than the usual modern SG copies. It would suit a player looking for an unusual vintage MIJ guitar, a collector of Japanese instruments, or someone wanting a genuinely old guitar with plenty of character.
