For all you fellow vintage hand tool lovers, this is a Marples 12 1/2 inch cabinet maker’s screwdriver.
As you can see from the photos, it’s a real beauty - now.

It’s a rescue, originally from Sheffield, via the US.
As you can see from the before pictures, I gave it a cleanup, redid the handle with a few coats of shellac, reseated the ferrule, before buffing out it with fine steel wool. The stunning boxwood handle is silky smooth. It’s a beautiful piece of hand tool history and a real joy to use. I’m thrilled with how it turned out.
