This is a genuine AIWA from the golden era, before the company was acquired by Sony.

The original cassette door has been removed because the old plastic had become too fragile with age. This does not affect the mechanism, playback, or sound quality in any way.

After restoring this player, I can confidently say that anyone who claims these machines only need a new belt has no idea what they're talking about. The tiny high-capacity electrolytic capacitors used in these players simply do not survive decades of use. Every failed or ageing capacitor has been replaced, and the entire unit has been fully serviced and lubricated.

Even without the cassette door, it looks perfectly fine sitting on a desk. In fact, it's a player that deserves to be heard. That's exactly why I restored it—I wanted to experience the sound of a classic AIWA for myself, and it certainly didn't disappoint.

Both cassette playback and FM/AM radio deliver the smooth, warm AIWA sound that these players are famous for. If you've never heard a vintage AIWA before, you're in for a pleasant surprise.
