The Marantz CD-52 Mk II is a classic early-1990s compact disc player featuring Philips CDM-4/19 swing-arm mechanics and 1-bit Bitstream digital-to-analog conversion. It offers a smooth, warm, and musical soundstage for a modest price. Key Design and Technical SpecsTransport Mechanism: Philips CDM-4/19 glass-optics swing-arm drive.

DAC Architecture: SAA7350GP 1-bit Bitstream technology

Frequency Response: 20 Hz to 20 kHzSignal-to-Noise Ratio: ~105 dB

Upgrades over Base CD-52: Revised higher-current power supply transformers, upgraded op-amps, and select audiophile-grade passive components

Sound Quality Review: Pros: Features a luscious, forward midband, consistent and coherent lower bass, and a rich, convincing soundstage that reduces digital listening fatigue. Cons: Frequency extremes lack the sharp definition of modern or state-of-the-art gear. Complex orchestral or ambient tracks can occasionally sound slightly flat or recessed in depth compared to punchier pop or vocal recordings.

Readability: Thanks to the reliable Philips laser assembly, it generally reads standard CDs and burned CD-Rs well.
