The Onkyo TX-4500 MKII is a giant stereo receiver from the late 1970s (roughly 1979–1980) that is often called a "beast" due to its massive physical footprint and high-current power delivery. While rated at a modest 60 watts per channel (WPC) into 8 ohms, it is widely considered underrated and punchy enough to outperform many competitors with higher official ratings.

Key Features

Quartz-Locked Tuning: It was one of the first receivers to feature a quartz-locked tuner for high accuracy.

Human Touch Sensor: A unique feature where the tuning knob senses your touch and automatically releases the quartz lock so you can dial in a new station.

Massive Connectivity: It offers an unusually high number of inputs for its class, including two phono inputs for turntables and three tape monitors, which can double as auxiliary inputs.

Three Speaker Sets: The rear panel includes outputs for three pairs of speakers (A, B, and C), allowing for flexible multi-room or multi-speaker

The first stereo receiver with quartz-synchronization for the FM band. Even the previous TX-4500 was a successful ONKYO upper class. Here the design has been optimized. For the display scale real thick glass is used. An expression of timeless elegance, in my opinion. A heavy receiver with high power for 3 pairs of speakers. 65 watt per channel.

The Onkyo TX-4500 MKII is officially rated to deliver 85 watts per channel into a 4-ohm load.

According to service manual specifications, it can also produce up to 75 watts per channel (minimum RMS) at 4 ohms with no more than 0.1% total harmonic distortion (THD) when both channels are driven at 1 kHz.
